Jimmy Kimmel proves that we’ll buy iWatch just because it’s made by Apple

Jimmel Kimmel is known for messing with Americans’ minds, especially when it comes to upcoming Apple products. This time, Kimmel’s crew sent a reporter out to Hollywood Boulevard to ask passersby what they thought about the Apple iWatch — and they loved it!

There’s just one small problem: Apple hasn’t actually released it yet.

The device in question was a $20 Casio watch that can tell you the time, the date, set alarms, and survive a quick plunge underwater. Pedestrians were simply blown away by how lightweight and attractive the “iTime smartwatch” looked. One lady even said, “It’s kind of like old school, but also in style.” Others commented on the nice rubber wristband and the big numbers.

Overall, people seemed slightly confused by “iTime,” especially when the reporter asked them if they liked its many cool, new features. Their responses perfectly illustrated how confused the average person is by the true function of smartwatches.

“I’m pretty impressed,” one guy said. “Those are the things I’d ask for in a watch.”

When asked what they liked about the smartwatch, the majority said they liked that it was from Apple.

“If it’s Apple it’s good, right?” another guy asked.

Anyone who wants to buy an Apple Watch has two clear choices to make. Will you be going home with the Apple Watch Series 6, or the Apple Watch SE? In previous years the decision about which Apple Watch to buy was almost solely based on aesthetics and budget, and deciding if you needed a cellular connection or not. This year, it’s a harder decision.

Over the past two weeks I’ve worn and reviewed both of the new Watch models -- be sure to read my Apple Watch Series 6 review, and my Apple Watch SE review --giving me the chance to look past the technical differences and see if, in the real world, you’re better off saving some money or spending a bit more.
First, some important advice
This really can’t be said enough: If you own an iPhone, don’t go out and buy any other smartwatch apart from the Apple Watch. Yes it’s tempting to go in a different style direction from everyone else, and smartwatches like the Diesel On Fadelite do turn heads, but you will absolutely regret your decision if you decide to be contrarian.

Apple is upfront about its environmental initiatives, whether that relates to its products, packaging, manufacturing, shipping, or its own corporate campus. At the "Time Flies" event announcing new iPads and Apple Watches, Lisa Jackson, Apple's VP of Environment, laid out a fresh set of environmental goals for the next decade.

One move that's going to directly affect consumers is Apple's fight against the problem of e-waste (electronic waste). It will no longer include a wall charger with the Apple Watch, effective immediately. "Sometimes it's not what we make, but what we don't make, that counts," she said.

The Apple Watch has become the latest Apple product to become less about the hardware and more about the software and services it enables. It’s a transition for the company that began years ago, but out of all Apple’s devices, the Apple Watch is the one with the fewest places to go, design-wise, and therefore a prime target for visual stagnation and a switch to pushing a new subscription service.

Think that’s a bad thing? It’s really not, and here’s why.
Watch design doesn't really change
In the early 1900s watchmaker Louis Cartier introduced the first Tank watch, a model that’s still made today, more than a hundred years later, with the majority of its distinguishing features intact. While I’m not calling the Apple Watch a Tank Solo rival, I am saying that watches don’t tend to change much, especially when the core aspects are exactly right.
