LG G Pro 2 to have 13-megapixel camera, OIS Plus, and 4K video recording mode

Check out our review of the LG G Pro 2 smartphone.

LG hasn’t been shy about revealing a few choice details concerning the G Pro 2, its next major smartphone release, which we’re expecting to launch before the end of the month. Having already confirmed the existence of the phone, LG has now announced it’ll come with a 13-megapixel camera equipped with a new technology called OIS Plus.

OIS stands for Optical Image Stabilization, a camera feature seen in several smartphones from Nokia and Sony, along with the LG G2. The clever lens setup eliminates blur caused by camera shaking, and allows the aperture to stay open a little longer, improving its low-light performance. Exactly how OIS Plus improves the system isn’t stated.

The news comes from an official LG blog post, where several other G Pro 2 camera features are discussed. It’ll be capable of shooting “Ultra HD” video, which at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, is one several pixel counts which falls into 4K territory. A slow motion mode will be onboard, along with a 20-frame burst mode. The front camera will clock in at 2.1 megapixels, and unusually, it may have a flash. The post is in Korean and the translation isn’t very clear about this, so we could be mistaken.

So, we know the G Pro 2 is coming, and now we know it’ll have a 13-megapixel camera with OIS Plus. A leak also shows the G Pro 2 may have the same rear-mounted controls seen on the G2. It all sounds exciting, but the one feature we’re still not sure about is the G Pro 2’s screen resolution. Will it have another 1080p panel, or will the device come with a 2560 x 1440 pixel count, making it one of the first 1440p resolution smartphones to go on sale?

The G Pro 2 will probably be one of LG’s top announcements during Mobile World Congress at the end of the month, where it will now almost certainly have to do battle with the Galaxy S5.

I record interviews for work. These are my favorite free recorder apps

Before you head to the app store on your phone to buy a voice-recording app, take a moment to consider the apps that may already be installed on your phone. Why? In my experience, they're likely all you really need. I’ve recorded interviews and voice-overs for work for years, and I’ve found the two best examples come preinstalled on your phone already, so they’re entirely free to use.

Google Pixel Tablet just got its first big discount and it’s worth a look
Google Pixel Tablet on its charging dock.

Tablets are a dime-a-dozen these days, with offerings from all the great brands including Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and more. So, if you really want to stand out in a sea of similar tech, you need to do things a little differently. That's what Google's Pixel Tablet offers. How? It comes with a unique speaker dock that can be used to both charge the device and offer room-filling sound -- almost like a smart speaker add-on. Better yet, when your Pixel Tablet is docked it benefits from the Hub Mode, turning the device into a smart display, with digital photo frame support, smart home controls, and hands-free Google functionality. Of course, it could set you back at full price, normally $499 unless you find it included in a roundup of the best Google Pixel deals. Well, guess what? Thanks to a Best Buy Google Pixel Tablet deal, you can get it today for $439 and save $60. Hurry, though, it's part of Best Buy's recent 48-hour sale so it won't stick around for long.

Why you should buy the Google Pixel Tablet
Okay, okay, so in our Google Pixel Tablet review, Joe Maring did give it less than stellar remarks, but he called out its reliable fingerprint sensor, comfortability during use and excellent speaker dock. Honestly, how many tablets come with a matching speaker dock that transforms the entire experience? This tablet also marks a "lot of firsts" for Google, as it's the first tablet from the company in nearly five years, the first Android tablet in eight years, and can be converted into a smart home display with the speaker dock. All of which are notable milestones.
