While LG already put up a website to promote the upcoming G Watch, the company’s first foray into the Android Wear-compatible market, it remains tight-lipped about any nitty-gritty details that pertain to the device. Fortunately, it seems that the G Watch visited the FCC earlier this month, and while most of the documentation is tucked behind confidentiality agreements, we learned a few things.
For one, the model that was at the FCC was the LG-W100. While the listing shows it will come with Bluetooth and Bluetooth LE, there is no mention of 3G or 4G connectivity. As such, this variant of the G Watch will need to sync to a smartphone in order to make or take calls. The LG-W105, on the other hand, is believed to include 3G and 4G connectivity, allowing it to remain untethered. However, that variant was not mentioned in the FCC filing.
The G Watch is due to launch sometime this summer and will reportedly retail for less than $300. It will be dust- and water-resistant, with rumors saying it will pack a 1.65-inch 280 x 280 pixel display. In addition, it is rumored to have 4GB of native storage. We could see the G Watch unveiled during next month’s Google I/O developer conference.
