Verizon and LG may team up to launch the Lancet, a leaked Windows Phone

It’s been ages since LG introduced its last Windows Phone, but after much ado, the Korean company has finally unveiled a new device with Microsoft’s mobile operating system onboard. The device, which was first spotted by Windows Central, is referred to as the LG Lancet. It’s now officially coming to Verizon for $120 full price.

The Lancet is hardly the high-spec Windows Phone that everyone’s waiting for ahead of the Windows 10 launch, but it is another budget-friendly, entry-level device for Microsoft’s OS. The Lancet sports a 4.5-inch LCD screen with a mere 854 x 480 pixel resolution. There’s an 8-megapixel camera on the back of the phone and what appears to be a wimpy VGA camera on the front side, though Verizon doesn’t mention it.

The decent 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and 1 GB of RAM powers the device, which comes with 8GB of internal storage that’s expandable with a MicroSD card. The ability to add more storage to the phone is even more important in this case because just 4GB of space is likely to be useable, the leaked brochure says. A 2,100mAh battery should keep the Lancet running for a sensible amount of time, especially since the screen has a low resolution.

LG did include several of its cool software tricks on the Lancet, including Knock On’s double tap to wake feature, QuickMemo for notes, Gesture Shot for capturing selfies, Soft Light for selfies, and Live Shot.

The low-end Windows Phone just arrived at Verizon, and it costs $120 unsubsidized. You can also get it for $20 on a two-year contract for a certain amount of time. The normal contracted price is $70. Those on device payment installment plans will pay just $5 a month to own the phone. If you’re interested, you can buy it on Verizon’s website.

Apple iPhone 12 production may start in July, making October launch possible

If you’re wondering when the iPhone 12 will be announced, and when it may go on sale, there’s another rumor to add to the growing list. According to the latest report, production of the iPhone 12 models with a 6.1-inch screen will begin in July and August, later than previous years when production often began around June. Apple may not meet the usual September launch if this is accurate, and may delay the launch by a month.

The news comes from DigiTimes, a publication with strong ties to the supply chain used by major phone makers, but a somewhat spotty history with accuracy for its product leaks and rumors. However, it’s better placed for rumors of this type, and as there is considerable uncertainty surrounding the future launch of the iPhone 12 series, any and all dates and rumors carry weight.

LG’s next flagship phone, the LG V60 ThinQ, which was expected to launch next week at the now-canceled Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona, has broken cover in a leaked press render published by Android Headlines.

The leak offers the first look at the LG V60 ThinQ’s front, which is largely dominated by a large screen that features a tiny notch. The notch appears to be thinner than the V50 ThinQ's, which hints at the absence of additional sensors for hands-free air gestures. The image also reveals a familiar design in a gold frame, although it’s unclear whether the phone features a dual-tone color similar to what LG has done in the past. The V60 ThinQ also inherits its predecessor’s dedicated Google Assistant hardware key on the left.
