Looking for a great new phone but don’t want to break the bank? LG has you covered. The company has just launched a new range of smartphones in its X series, with all four of them being aimed squarely at the midrange market.

The devices are called the X Power, X Mach, X Style and X Max, and they’ll be added to a lineup already featuring the X Cam and X Screen. The phones will be available sometime later this month, and while details are still a little sketchy about the phones, we know that they’re aimed at different uses.

As its name suggests, the X Power is aimed at giving users enough battery life to last the day — something it does with a hefty 4,100mAh battery, while still keeping a relatively thin frame that is 7.9mm thick.

The X Mach is aimed at faster performance, supporting LTE Cat 9 3CA data transfers with a 1.8GHz processor. While it’s aimed at performance, that doesn’t mean its screen isn’t any good — it uses a QHD IPS Quantum display to offer clear images. It also has a “high-performance camera” that’s designed to take great low-light photos.

The X Style, as the name suggests, is all about looks — it offers  a thin, curved body with a large display for media watching.

Apparently LG doesn’t have anything to say about the X Max — no specs for the device were offered in its launch announcement. Full specs, pricing, and specific availability are unknown at this time, but those should be made more clear when the devices launch later this month.

Midrange phones are becoming the real moneymakers for companies like LG. Sure, LG’s G series normally takes the spotlight, but it will be the X series that makes LG a large bulk of its money — at least when it comes to mobile.

LG Wing smartphone flies high with a crazy rotating screen
lg wing news screen

LG continues to experiment with alternative designs to enhance our mobile experience, and the latest is the highly unusual LG Wing smartphone. Like the G8X ThinQ Dual Screen and the V60 ThinQ Dual Screen it has two screens, just not in quite the way you expect. At first glance it looks similar to the LG Velvet, until you press a button and the screen rotates 90 degrees into landscape orientation, and reveals another screen underneath. It’s more madness from the company that brought you the modular LG G5, and a television that magnetically sticks to your wall.

You’re probably asking why. It’s all about increasing screen real estate without resorting to a full foldable design, and in turn increasing multitasking opportunities. We usually think of multiple windows when talking about multitasking, but the LG Wing’s innovative screen system means apps and controls can live on the secondary screen and not interrupt the main view. This way you can reply to messages while watching video, use game controls and not cover the action, or view maps with music controls or search running, too. What’s more, you can use the phone in any orientation.

Honor’s 9X Pro is a solid budget smartphone forced to live on an island
honor 9x pro hands on features price photos release date back

There’s a lot Honor will tell you about the “new” Honor 9X Pro, and a very crucial point that it probably won’t. It'll be upfront about the fact the Honor 9X Pro won't come with Google Mobile Services onboard, allowing you to make a proper, informed decision when you go to buy one. What it won’t tell you is this is almost the same phone launched in China in July 2019, and that makes it old before it even goes on sale.
Improved design and internals
You may remember the Honor 9X from the end of 2019. It was a bit wheezy in performance, and just a little too low-end in its design and materials to be a recommendation. However, it does come with Google Play installed, something the 9X Pro doesn’t, giving it a massive benefit over the newly launched Honor 9X Pro before it even hits the stores. More on this later, but let's take a look at the device.

Happily the body is made of glass, which is a welcome visual and tactile upgrade over the plastic body on the 9X. The smooth, cool-to-the-touch rear panel is classy and pleasing to hold. Honor has retained the flashy X refraction in the body's design from the 9X on the 9X Pro, and refined it to look even better. The pixel-art style is gone, and replaced with something more like the View 20’s deep reflective surface. It’s colorful and eye-catching when held up in the right light.
