LG Unveils Its First Android Phone

LG-GW620

The robots are coming: on the heels of Motorola announcing its first Android handset last week, South Korea’s LG Electronics is hot on its heels, today unveiling the LG-GW620, it’s own first Android device. The LG-GW620 will sport a 3-inch LCD touchscreen and a full slide-out QWERTY keypad for messaging…but LG held back most of the rest of the phone’s details.

“The LG-GW620 will appeal to first-time smartphone customers by offering a new and different kind of user experience,” said LGE Mobile Communications Company president and CEO Dr. Skott Ahn, in a statement. “Our objective is to provide a wide selection of smartphones to satisfy the diverse preferences of today’s consumers. This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead.”

LG apparently sees Android-based handset as a vehicle for putting accessible smartphones in the hands of consumers and young professionals; in the meantime, LG is putting lots of attention into Windows Mobile smartphones for the corporate, government, and enterprise set, saying that it will be introducing at least 13 new Windows Mobile smartphones over the next 16 months—with three coming in the lext few weeks.

LG anticipates shipping the the LG-GW620 in some European markets in the fourth quarter of 2009.

TCL 20 Pro 5G's screen.

Are you looking to buy a new Android phone in this year's Prime Day deals? If you want to check out alternatives to the most popular brands, you should take a look at the TCL 20 Pro 5G. From its original price of $300, it's down to $200 after a $100 discount from Amazon for the shopping holiday. We're not sure if the offer will remain available until the end of Prime Day though, so if you're thinking about buying the smartphone, you need to decide quickly on whether to proceed with the purchase to make sure that you don't miss out on the bargain.

Why you should buy the TCL 20 Pro 5G
TCL is more popularly known as one of the best TV brands because of the value that it provides from stunning picture quality that you'll get at affordable prices. This translates to its foray into the smartphone business with the TCL 20 Pro 5G's 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen that's powered by the NXTVISION engine, promising true-to-life colors, clarity, and contrast. The mobile device also comes with an SDR-to-HDR feature that improves videos that you're watching to High Dynamic Range, as well as low blue light certification with smart brightness adjustments to keep your eyes comfortable even after looking at the screen for hours.

Honor’s new Android phone has a feature we’ve never seen before
Promotional photo showing the Honor 90 phone in different colors.

Honor isn’t happy with Samsung taking all the mid-range smartphone glory with the excellent Galaxy A54. As such, it has launched the Honor 90 to see if it can tempt you away from Samsung's colorful and capable device. The Honor 90 matches the Galaxy A54’s price, but what about its specifications?

Honor has highlighted the screen technology as a reason to buy, and it certainly has something we haven't seen before. It’s a 6.7-inch, 2664 x 1200 pixel resolution OLED with a quad-curve shape, meaning it flows down into the chassis for comfort and style. The panel uses 3840Hz Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming to minimize flicker at low brightness, and it's the first time we've seen this level of PWM dimming on any smartphone. Other phones have 1920Hz or 2160Hz PWM dimming (such as the Realme 11 Pro+) at the most. The technology should also help reduce eye fatigue when using the screen for a long time. The screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification, and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits.
