The question of whether LG is in the process of building another Nexus device has been brought up again this week, after a mysterious LG model number was linked with one of Google’s popular products. This time it’s the @evleaks Twitter account which has piqued our interest, saying it has received a tip that the LG V510 will wear the Nexus branding.
LG has produced the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5 smartphone for Google, and as the latter has only recently gone on sale, we doubt it’s about to launch another phone. So, if the V510 is real, then it could be a tablet. It’s not just the most recent tweet which makes us think this way either, as there have been several other hints.
The LG V510 model number first showed up in a Bluetooth certification listing at the end of October, but there’s was no proof it would be headed to Google. In fact, there was more reason to think it was a variation on LG’s G Pad 8.3, which is also known as the LG V500.
In early December, a manual popped up for the V510, which also pointed to it being related to the G Pad. The screen size was listed as 8.3-inches, and the resolution as 1920 x 1200, which are both identical to the V500. Other features included 2GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.3-megapixel forward facing camera. According to the source, there was no mention of the Nexus name.
So how does this circle back to the V510 potentially being a Nexus tablet? It’s all thanks to rumors of the Nexus 8. However, while an 8-inch Nexus has been leaked several times, it has never been confirmed by Google, and all the evidence has been sketchy at best. Looking at what we know now, if the V510 is real, it’s probably another LG-branded tablet, but we’re prepared to be surprised.
