Heads up, iPhone users: If iCloud, Dropbox, Box, Amazon, or any of the other cloud storage services currently available to you just aren’t cutting it, there’s a new option in town: Microsoft SkyDrive.
Long available on Windows desktop, Windows Phone and through the Web, SkyDrive offers the most free space out of any of the major cloud storage services — a full 25GB. Dropbox, by comparison, only offers two gigabytes. Box offers five gigabytes for free, as does Apple through iCloud and Amazon with Cloud Drive.
The release of the first SkyDrive iOS app is part of Microsoft’s gradual admission that, well, a lot of people use Apple’s products. And compared to the number of people who use Windows Phone devices, there’s just really no contest. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right? Microsoft also offers iOS apps for Hotmail, Bing, Messenger, Skype and OneNote, which is now syncable with SkyDrive.
SkyDrive for iPhone gives users all the regular functionality, including accessing and managing files already uploaded to the cloud, the ability to upload photos, documents and videos, and create new folders, as well as share files with others.
While SkyDrive is a bit more basic than some of the other options out there, it’s by far the best deal. So if you need to boost your cloud storage space, this is a great way to go. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
