Surprisingly, this leak comes directly from Microsoft. The company accidentally revealed the smartphone’s name in a video description. Microsoft China uploaded the video, showing how Continuum works, and said that the the Lumia 950, 950 XL, Acer Jade Primo, and the Lumia Phone X support it.
The description was quickly edited, but Weibo users uploaded the evidence. Microsoft has not commented on the rumors.
We don’t know much about the Lumia Phone X, though some suggest it might be the Surface Phone, which has been rumored for a few months. The leaked specs of the Surface Phone would almost certainly be enough to support Continuum, with an Intel Atom processor and 4GB of RAM rumored to be inside, but we have our doubts. The Surface team is separate from Microsoft Mobile, which is responsible for the Lumia devices, so it seems strange that the Surface Phone would be internally named the Lumia Phone X.
A report earlier this week said that the Lumia 650 launches on February 1, but the Lumia Phone X apparently supports Continuum, a feature that is only available on Windows Mobile devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon 617, 808, or 810 processors. Rumors say the Lumia 650 will have a lower spec Snapdragon processor, possibly the Snapdragon 210 or 212. The Lumia 750 and 850 are other possible candidates to be the Lumia Phone X, but specs rumors suggest the Lumia 750 is packing a single gigabyte of RAM, which is less than the required amount for Continuum support.
There are still a lot of unknowns with this leak, and for all we know Microsoft might have made a genuine error in the description. That said, if anything new crops up regarding the Lumia Phone X, we will be sure to update this article.
