The invite reads, “Your relationship status is about to change,” and is signed “XGX, Moto” — “G” very cleverly looks almost like an “O,” but it’s clearly a G — perhaps for Moto G, as the X is likely a reference to the Moto X.
We’ll be at the event to check out everything new from Motorola, and for those not able to be there in person, the company will live stream the event here.
In the meantime, here are our predictions:
Moto G 2015
We’ve already seen leaked press renders of the 2015 Moto G and heard about a great number of its specs, but now it seems likely that it will launch at the July 28 event. Early leaks hinted at better-than-expected specs for the budget phone, but later reports seem to put a damper on the first predictions. It will be interesting to see which direction Motorola takes.
The new Moto G is expected to sport a 5.0-inch screen with either a 720p or 1080p resolution. It’ll probably be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 1GB or 2GB of RAM. It’ll most likely run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and may have a 13 and 5-megapixel camera setup, as well as 16GB of built-in storage. The battery is expected to be 2,470mAh, which is pretty decent. The new Moto G may even get the Moto Maker treatment, so you could choose your own back cover. An FCC filing also hinted that it’ll come to Sprint for around $180, but nothing’s been confirmed yet.
Moto X 2015
The 2015 Moto X has leaked almost as much as the Moto G, and it’s very likely that it will also arrive at the July 28 event. Based on several leaks, it’s expected to have a 5.2-inch screen with a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution, and it may even have a fingerprint sensor. The troubled Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is expected to power the new Moto X with as much as 4GB of
Buyers will probably still be able to customize the Moto X with Moto Maker, though it’s unclear whether new options will be offered or not. Leaked pictures of what appears to be the back of the Moto X seem to hint that it will look a lot like the previous version of the Moto X, which was considered a real beauty.
New Motorola Droid
The successor to the popular Droid Turbo may also debut at the July 28 event, though less is known about this device. An FCC filing hinted at a few of its specs, including Quick Charge capabilities and connectivity, as well as its dimensions. The device is said to be coming to T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon. A leaked photo shows a very similar look to last year’s Droid Turbo, with some slight variances.
A Droid Mini is also rumored in the same FCC filing, so there’s a chance that we could see two Droid-branded phones, instead of one.
Moto 360 2015
The second-generation Moto 360 is more of a long shot for the event, since we haven’t heard much about it in a while, but it doesn’t hurt to dream. The only thing we really know about the second Moto 360 is a vague idea of how it might look from a post by Lenovo, Motorola’s Chinese owner.
It could end up with a smaller screen, or perhaps come in two models, but little else is known. The second Moto 360 will, of course, run the new version of
