The Motorola Moto G caused a stir when it was announced earlier this month, thanks to its low price, impressive specs, and Motorola’s aggressive promotion of its benefits during the launch event. While the phone is already on sale in the UK and several other countries, Americans wanting the phone were settling down to wait for its release in January 2014.

However, Motorola has decided Christmas should come a month early, and has put the Moto G up for pre-order through its own US online store, and it’ll ship at the beginning of December. The model listed is the standard GSM Moto G, which will work with networks such as AT&T and T-Mobile, but only with 3G connection speeds. There’s a choice of either 8GB or 16GB of internal memory, and the former Moto G will cost you just $180, and the latter $200.

We’ve already given the Moto G 4.5 stars and a prestigious Editor’s Choice award in our comprehensive review, believing it’s hard to find a comparable smartphone for the price. In case you need a reminder, the Moto G has a 720p, 4.5-inch touchscreen, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera. While that may not stack up against the equally well-priced Nexus 5 on paper, in reality the two are harder to separate.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is installed as standard, but Motorola has promised an update to Android 4.4 KitKat will arrive in January, and if you’re not an overly demanding user, the battery will easily out last hardware with larger, higher resolution screens. A CDMA version of the Moto G is coming, and according to The Verge, is still on target for release in early 2014.

You can find the pre-order page for the Motorola Moto G here, and deliveries are scheduled to start on December 2.
