New video shows teardown of the not-yet-released Motorola Razr

The Motorola Razr isn’t officially out yet, but it looks like some people have gotten their hands on the new phone a little early. In fact, YouTube channel PBKreviews has posted a teardown video of the Razr, showing how difficult it will be to repair.

The video shows that to get into the device, you’ll need to be dedicated. The reviewer managed to do so by heating the glue around the edges and prying it open. There are then a number of screws that you’ll have to unscrew if you want to get further into the phone.

As can be seen in the video, the device actually has two batteries, split between the two halves of it. The video also shows that all of the chips and parts are more or less housed in the bottom half of the phone, along with one of the batteries. Also on the bottom half of the device is the fingerprint scanner and USB-C port.

On the top of the phone, you’ll find the other battery, along with the components for the smaller front-facing camera, and the components for the front- and rear-facing cameras.

The reviewer in this video doesn’t disassemble the hinge of the phone, but does show off the ultra-flexible display. The display is shown to be extremely thin, and could be easily broken once removed from the phone itself. It seems as though the phone does a good job of keeping the display in place during use.

Flexible phones in general are poised to become a whole lot more popular over the next few years. Samsung launched the first mainstream device in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and while the launch of that phone was a little rocky, it’s likely Samsung (and the rest of the industry) learned a lot from that saga. Hopefully, the Motorola Razr will avoid many of the issues around quality control that the original Samsung Galaxy Fold ran into.

The Motorola Razr is now available for pre-order at $1,500. The device is a revival of the classic Motorola Razr, and is available straight from Verizon or from the Motorola website.

I found a hidden way to turn your Motorola phone into an iPhone
A Motorola phone next to an iPhone.

Well, folks, things certainly are getting busy in the mobile tech space. Samsung recently launched new foldables and wearables, Google's Pixel 9 series will be here before you know it, and it won't be long before we have to turn our attention toward the iPhone 16.

But I want to take a quick break from all of that to talk about Motorola. No, the company hasn't launched a new phone or anything like that. I recently discovered a hidden setting on my Motorola Razr Plus 2024. It's a setting that lets you make part of your Motorola phone look like an iPhone. It's weird, unexpected, and possibly a sign of other big changes coming to Motorola phones in the future.

The Motorola Razr 2024 is about to get some tough competition
Huawei Nova flip phone in green

Hot on the heels of news about a revolutionary new folding smartphone that may (or may not) be coming soon, Huawei has teased a less revolutionary new folding phone that is definitely coming soon. Through a video trailer shared on its official Weibo social network page, Huawei has shown the Huawei Nova Flip, which has a different take on the current “big cover screen” trend.

In the video, the Nova Flip is shown folded and unfolded, with the former orientation revealing a small, square cover screen display. This is unlike the current crop of compact folding phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Motorola Razr 2024, which have large screens on the outside that take up the majority of the panel. The idea is to increase usability when the phone is closed, as both apps and widgets can be used.

The new Motorola Edge 50 just set a smartphone world record
An official render of the Motorola Edge 50 smartphone.

Yesterday, renders and specs for a new Motorola phone leaked online. Fast-forward a few hours, and the phone is now official! It's called the Motorola Edge 50, and it looks like a fairly interesting release.

Design-wise, the Motorola Edge 50 (unsurprisingly) looks a lot like other Motorola Edge phones released this year. It comes in three colors, including Jungle Green and Pantone Peach Fuzz with a vegan leather finish, while the third Koala Grey color comes in a vegan suede backside.
