Remember when flip phones were exciting? Now if you see a person using one, you probably wonder why they would use such an ancient thing. Well you might want to stop judging, because a new phone from Oppo leaked online, and it could bring the flip phone back in style.

This isn’t your traditional flip phone, though. This phone from Oppo has a foldable 7-inch screen. That’s right, you can fold it completely in half to make it more compact.

It’s still in the prototype stage, but supposedly Oppo has been working on this concept device since August 2015. According to the rumor, a working prototype was made available in February. The leaked image gives you a good idea of how it works, but check out the video on this website for a better visual.

Unfortunately we don’t have any other information about the phone, other than it runs Android. We don’t even know when it might be available.

Oppo isn’t the only company working on foldable phones and screen technology. Samsung has already shown various prototypes of foldable displays over the years, and it’s rumored that the Korean giant will launch its first foldable phone, the Galaxy X, next year.

Although Oppo isn’t well known here in the United States, the company is a worldwide powerhouse, thanks to China. According to IDC, the company ranked fourth in terms of worldwide market share during the first quarter 2016.

Oppo is no a stranger to innovation, either. Back in 2014, Oppo introduced the N3 smartphone with a rotating camera, so you could use the same high-quality lens at the rear or the front of the device. Back in February, the company demonstrated an optical image stabilization smart sensor that basically eliminates any camera shake. It also demonstrated its Super VOOC fast charging tech that can charge a 2,500mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in only 15 minutes.

Of course, there is always the possibility this leaked device isn’t even real, so we’re hoping Oppo will openly talk about it soon and tell us more about its intentions. If Oppo can launch its first foldable phone around the same time as Samsung’s Galaxy X, 2017 could be an exciting year for mobile.

Excited for the iPhone 15 Pro? You have to see these new renders
iPhone 15 Pro in red.

The iPhone 15 — and its rumored hardware upgrades — have been the talk of the rumor mill for the past few months. Now, the folks over at 9to5Mac have shared what they claim to be CAD-based renders of the iPhone 15 Pro and its Max variant in some stunning visual fashion.

Let’s start with the screen. The pill-shaped Dynamic Island is here to stay, but it looks like Apple is trimming the bezels on its upcoming flagships. If the leaked renders turn out to be true, the iPhone 15 Pro would offer some of the thinnest bezels you can find on any phone out there.

This app fixes my biggest problem with the Oppo Find N2 Flip

The Oppo Find N2 Flip is my favorite clamshell-style folding phone. I prefer it over the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 because it lasts longer on a single charge, exhibits minimal crease on the main display, and has a bigger outer screen. But I wasn’t too impressed by the outer display because it lacks support for individual apps. It only allows you to view a few widgets with access to the camera, weather, timer, and reminder.

Not being able to access apps on the cover display or reply to notifications was my biggest annoyance with the Find N2 Flip. But I came across an app that (almost) fixes the issue completely. It’s called CoverScreen OS, and here’s how it has enhanced my experience of using the phone.

The one thing the iPhone 14, Galaxy S23, and Pixel 7 all get wrong
Apple iPhone SE (2020) being plugged in to charge.

At Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year, new smartphones broke cover as one would expect. I won't bore you with all the details; Digital Trends' Joe Maring and Jacob Roach wrote an excellent roundup of all the best MWC 2023 announcements already.

One key quality-of-life-improving feature we picked up on as a theme was charging speed. Apple, Samsung, and Google, the mainstream phone brands by coverage (even if not all by sales), stick to a fast-charging average speed of just over an hour — even with the latest iPhone 14, Galaxy S23, and Pixel 7. By comparison, a phone from Xiaomi, Oppo, or OnePlus can get you moving in 30 minutes or even less. It's time to demand more from our phones.
Fast charging exists — just not for you
