The first image of a new Windows Phone device has been leaked online. It’s from a manufacturer named Prestigio, a newcomer to Microsoft’s world, and one of two new partners announced during Build 2014. The phone has one of the worst names we’ve heard in a while. It’s apparently called the MultiPhone PAP5507, which if it didn’t include the word phone, we’d have to assume it was a kitchen appliance.
Terrible name aside, the device looks attractive in the leaked picture. The rear panel is covered in what we expect is fake leather, just like the Galaxy Note 3, adding a premium air to what’s likely to be a mid-range phone. It’s joined by a chrome logo and crest, with a top center camera lens and flash unit completing the look. From the side, the phone looks suitably slim, although the front panel is rather uninteresting.
Prestigio’s existing MultiPhone range consists of affordable, mid-range Android devices, and a set of possible specs indicates the Windows Phone model will be the same. A 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor could power the phone, and while the screen size isn’t known, it may have a 720p resolution. The camera on the rear is expected to have 8-megapixels, and in the image, it’s possible to see a secondary lens above the screen.
Microsoft added Presigio and Micromax to the list of manufacturers signed on to produce Windows Phone devices during the Windows Phone 8.1 launch event in April. Corporate VP of Operating Systems, Joe Belfiore, even showed off prototype devices from both companies, but not in any detail. The Prestigio leak does suggest we’ll be seeing a launch in the near future. Presitgio isn’t the most well-known name, but it does sell smartphones in the UK, throughout Europe, and in the Middle East. According to its website, the firm doesn’t have any sales outlets in America at the moment.
