Realme GT 2 Pro set for December 20 launch with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip

Realme has launched several phones this year, including some models in the GT range of smartphones. They also have plans for their first foldable phone. With the final holiday period of the year looming round the corner, Realme has chosen an opportunistic time to launch its latest series of smartphones — and the first to get Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. The company has confirmed that a launch event will be held on December 20 to reveal the Realme GT 2 series of smartphones.

According to rumors, multiple smartphones will be announced at this event, including two variants of the GT 2 Pro, which has been heralded as the company’s “most premium flagship” smartphone. As per the leaked specs, the phone will possess a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with QHD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate.

As mentioned, it’ll also be Realme’s first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, with an impressive 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage space. Additionally, it will run on the Realme UI 3.0, which is based on Android 12. The handset also packs a decent 5,000mAh battery, juiced by 65-watt fast charging.

There has also been a solid rumor that this will be the first Realme smartphone to have an under display selfie camera, similar to Samsung Z Fold 3. In this case, it’ll be a capable 32-megapixel sensor, though we’ll need to wait and see what the picture quality ends up being. The back panel will contain a triple-camera setup, with a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and an unspecified telephoto camera.

The official pricing details will need to wait till the event to be confirmed; however, the company’s founder and CEO Sky Li has mentioned that Realme wishes to enter the high-end smartphone market for devices at over $800. Even at that price, it could prove to be a steal. The GT 2 Pro and its variants would most likely be available to Europe and the rest of the world by the first quarter of 2022.

The GT Neo 3T proves just how bad Realme’s phone addiction is
realme gt neo 3t phone addiction backs

Realme has a phone addiction. The time has come for us to sit Realme down and have a serious talk about it together. The release of the Realme GT Neo 3T shows how bad things have gotten. While it's a perfectly acceptable phone, it has no place of its own in Realme's range, makes little sense over other models, and brings nothing new to the table.
Why does the GT Neo 3T exist?
I have used the Realme GT Neo 3T for a couple of days, and if you had asked me what the difference was between it, the GT Neo 3, the GT Neo 2, the GT 2, the GT 2 Pro,  and even the Realme 9 Pro+, I would have paused, said err and umm, and then changed the subject. I couldn’t tell you without looking at the spec sheet or referring only to the different colors and finishes.

Realme GT 2 Pro lets you unravel wonders of the micro world
This macro camera is incredibly fun.
Microscope mode on the Realme GT 2 Pro used to capture a bud on the rubber plant.

The human pursuit to unravel what cannot be seen has been the driving force behind almost every great invention that improves our lives today. This inclination to be curious also led to the invention of the microscope, an indispensable tool in humanity's efforts at exploring the microscopic realms.

While the microscope itself has made significant advances since its invention more than 300 years ago, crude forms of the instrument are now much more accessible, especially thanks to our smartphones. You can buy cheap contraptions
that turn any smartphone's camera into a microscope, but for better results, you might want to rely on a phone such as the Realme GT 2 Pro that comes with a dedicated microscope camera.

Qualcomm is launching new Snapdragon chips on May 20
qualcomm snapdragon 8 gen 1 launch chip

Qualcomm has put out a teaser on Weibo to confirm its next event which is scheduled for May 20. The event bears the tagline, “new products” and is likely to be livestreamed. There, the company will unveil new Snapdragon chipsets, presumably the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+.

A few years ago, Qualcomm began to produce “Plus” versions of some chipsets. These chipsets are basically souped-up versions of their respective models and are used in Android smartphones that launch during the latter half of the year. In this case, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will bring improvement over the existing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, supposedly in the GPU section. It is reported that the chipset will be fabricated on a TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also uses the 4nm process but unlike TSMC it was fabricated by Samsung.
