The oddly named RMQ5018 runs Windows 10 Mobile and Android Lollipop — sort of

Phones that run Windows 10 Mobile out of the box are few and far between, but the oddly named RMQ5018 looks to be the latest member of that list that happens to also be affordable.

Starting on the outside, the RMQ5018 will not win any beauty pageants, but its industrial design is not just for show — the phone is IP68-certified, which allows it to go underwater up to two meters deep for 30 minutes and also ward off any dust headed its way. Looking past the design, the RMQ5018 packs a 5-inch, 1,280 x 720p resolution display, with a 2-megapixel camera above it and an 8-megapixel sensor around back.

Under the hood, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset and 1GB RAM power the RMQ5018, though it is unknown whether the 8GB of built-in storage is expandable through a MicroSD card slot. Even so, the 3,200mAh battery ensures you can use the phone all day and then some.

Even more interesting, the RMQ5018 runs either Windows 10 Mobile or Android 5.1 Lollipop, but the phone does not have dual-boot capabilities — rather, the phone comes in two versions that run either software. Unfortunately, the low-powered chipset will not allow the Windows 10 Mobile version to support Continuum, which turns any supported phone into a pseudo-PC. Regardless of the version, the RMQ5018 includes NFC, so you can use either Microsoft Wallet or Android Pay mobile payment service.

On paper, the RMQ5018 is certainly a unique phone, but it is one you will need to import if you are interested. Alibaba currently sells the phone for an affordable $130, but keep in mind the phone does not have the proper U.S. band support. With that said, there are alternatives if you do not care for a rugged Windows 10 Mobile phone, such as the Alcatel Fierce XL.

I record interviews for work. These are my favorite free recorder apps

Before you head to the app store on your phone to buy a voice-recording app, take a moment to consider the apps that may already be installed on your phone. Why? In my experience, they're likely all you really need. I’ve recorded interviews and voice-overs for work for years, and I’ve found the two best examples come preinstalled on your phone already, so they’re entirely free to use.

Google Pixel Tablet just got its first big discount and it’s worth a look
Google Pixel Tablet on its charging dock.

Tablets are a dime-a-dozen these days, with offerings from all the great brands including Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and more. So, if you really want to stand out in a sea of similar tech, you need to do things a little differently. That's what Google's Pixel Tablet offers. How? It comes with a unique speaker dock that can be used to both charge the device and offer room-filling sound -- almost like a smart speaker add-on. Better yet, when your Pixel Tablet is docked it benefits from the Hub Mode, turning the device into a smart display, with digital photo frame support, smart home controls, and hands-free Google functionality. Of course, it could set you back at full price, normally $499 unless you find it included in a roundup of the best Google Pixel deals. Well, guess what? Thanks to a Best Buy Google Pixel Tablet deal, you can get it today for $439 and save $60. Hurry, though, it's part of Best Buy's recent 48-hour sale so it won't stick around for long.

Why you should buy the Google Pixel Tablet
Okay, okay, so in our Google Pixel Tablet review, Joe Maring did give it less than stellar remarks, but he called out its reliable fingerprint sensor, comfortability during use and excellent speaker dock. Honestly, how many tablets come with a matching speaker dock that transforms the entire experience? This tablet also marks a "lot of firsts" for Google, as it's the first tablet from the company in nearly five years, the first Android tablet in eight years, and can be converted into a smart home display with the speaker dock. All of which are notable milestones.
