Report: Samsung Cloud is coming to the PC sometime next year

Samsung entered the cloud storage market with Samsung Cloud earlier this year when it released its Galaxy Note 7. The service basically allows you to back up and restore your files and apps without needing to ever plug your phone into your computer. The only issue with it? It’s only accessible on Samsung phones. According to a recent report, however, that could change in the very near future.

The report, which is from SamMobile, says that Samsung will open up the service to computers too, allowing users to access their files and documents on their PC. While the report said the new features will be launched “next year,” an exact date was not provided.

The source for SamMobile’s report is actually a member of the Galaxy Beta Program who messaged Samsung support saying that PC access is a necessary feature. The response from Samsung was that the “Samsung Cloud Team is in deep consideration on providing web services,” and that “we expect users would be able to view and manage their data on the web once we open Samsung Cloud web service next year.”

That’s some pretty encouraging news for those that use Samsung Cloud — the service is great at backing files up, but not so great at helping users manage them. Web access would go a long way in helping change that. As part of Samsung Cloud, users get 15GB of free cloud storage, and can purchase more if they need it.

The news could signal that Samsung will compete a little more with Google Drive, which also helps users back up their files and data from their phone and across multiple platforms.

According to a report over the weekend, Samsung might abandon Google Search in favor of Bing as the default search engine for future Samsung Galaxy phones.

The possibility that Samsung is considering replacing Google Search with Bing on its smartphones sent Google into a "panic," according to the New York Times, Why? As the report explains, "An estimated $3 billion in annual revenue is at stake with the Samsung contract." If Samsung doesn't want to keep using Google for the default search engine on its phones, that's $3 billion per year Google will no longer get. And if Samsung decides it wants Bing instead of Google, who knows how many other companies will follow suit and do the same.
