It hasn’t even been a year, and there’s already an improved Samsung Galaxy A9

Announced last December, the Samsung Galaxy A9 represented the company’s latest effort to disguise a mid-range smartphone in high-end construction. Following the lead of Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi and Meizu, however, Samsung opted to create a Pro version of its jumbo-sized Galaxy A smartphone, which brings us to the Galaxy A9 Pro, reports GSM Arena.

Revealed for China, the Galaxy A9 Pro doesn’t do anything dramatic to differentiate itself from the original, offering slight bumps in RAM, built-in storage, camera resolution, and battery. More specifically, the Galaxy A9 Pro runs on 4GB of RAM, up from the 3GB found in the original, while featuring 32GB of storage, twice the storage of the original. In addition, the Galaxy A9 Pro features an 8-megapixel camera on the front and a 16MP camera around back, nice bumps from the 5MP and 13MP rear- and front-facing shooters, respectively, found in the original. Finally, the Pro version of the Galaxy A9 includes a whopping 5,000mAh battery, up from the 4,000mAh battery found in the Galaxy A9.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy A9 Pro remains identical to the original, with no changes made to the 6-inch, 1,920 x 1,080 resolution Super AMOLED display or the 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor. The Galaxy A9 Pro even retains the same exterior design as its sibling. Even so, the improvements Samsung did make ensure not only that the Galaxy A9 Pro will be capable of improved performance, but improved endurance as well.

By that same token, the Galaxy A9 Pro is the definition of iterative. Whether that iteration is worth 3,499 Yuan, or around $540 — a $53 increase from the original Galaxy A9 – will be up to you, though keep in mind the Galaxy A9 Pro was only announced for China. However, previous members of the Galaxy A series have seen worldwide releases, so it remains possible that the same will occur with the Galaxy A9 Pro.

Samsung’s One UI 5 beta is already available for some Galaxy S22 owners

Samsung's One UI 5 beta is beginning to roll out for select Galaxy S22 owners via the Samsung Members app. Today, Samsung announced the early rollout would be exclusive to Germany, South Korea, and the U.S. — but it quickly pulled the announcement from its website without a replacement (likely a sign that the post went up earlier than it should have). While Samsung works on getting its timing right, folks who've gotten early access to One UI 5 have taken to Twitter to show off the new features.

As expected, One UI 5 puts customization at the forefront of the update. Now, Galaxy users will have nearly endless options when it comes to how they want their UI to look. Early examples that we've seen on Twitter include things such as expanded color options, widget stacking, and more ways than ever before to customize notification settings. All of this was detailed in the pulled presser that Samsung officially posted earlier today, in addition to details regarding other new features coming with the update.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 shows why Android 12L isn’t enough

Android tablets have usually fallen behind iPads and Windows tablets when it comes to offering good tablet experiences. With Android 12L, Google is taking that particular bull by the horns. The update will roll out to Pixel phones starting next month, but Samsung's recent announcement of the Galaxy Tab S8 casts a shadow over what should be a revival for Google's tablet ambitions because it shows that the problem with Android tablets isn't really with the interface.
What's Android 12L?
To quickly recap, Google last year announced Android 12L, an initiative the company is using to make Android a better experience on tablets and foldables. The company will continue this work through Android 13 and has hopes for app developers to step in line and create apps that would work better with Android going forward. The big issue here is that Android 12L is redundant for the most part -- and the Tab S8 is a reminder of that.

Android 12L, as far as focusing on bigger screen devices goes, amounts to pretty much a user interface revamp. There's a new multi-pane interface for the lock screen and the notification center, and there's support for a dock for productivity scenarios. But none of this actually fixes problems that exist for users. If you've done any shopping for Android tablets recently, you'll notice that companies like Samsung that actually sell Android tablets have pretty much always had their device software competently tablet-optimized.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 isn’t charging as fast as it should

The Galaxy S22 series comes with two types of chargers, 25-watt adapters for the base S22 model and 45 watts for the S22+ and the S22 Ultra. However, tests with both adapters seem to indicate that they don't really make a difference to overall charging time.

When comparing the time it takes to reach a full charge with all models in the S22 line, it becomes apparent that spending the extra cash on a 45W adapter is a complete waste as all devices take the same amount of time, according to tests done by GSMArena.
