New leak reveals Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S20+ all in its glory

We’re barely a month away from Samsung’s February event, but we think we already know a fair bit about its upcoming line of Galaxy flagship smartphones — almost everything except their names. Today, a new XDA Developers report puts that mystery to rest as well and confirms that there will be no Galaxy S11. Instead, the Galaxy S10 series’ successors will be called the S20s — likely to match the decade.

The fresh leak also reveals the first live images of the Galaxy S20 Plus which will reportedly be the middle child of the lineup. As previous renders have suggested, the most striking element of the new phone will be its large, rectangular camera bump on the rear. It is expected to include a primary 12-megapixel 1.8μm sensor along with telephoto, wide-angle, and macro supplementary lenses. There’s also an LED flash and a microphone that may have been added to enable the company’s zoom-in video-recording feature.

While it still sports the same all-glass exterior, Samsung has made a handful of more notable alterations in the design. The tiny notch on the front that houses the single selfie camera has been relocated to the center from the corner — similar to the Galaxy Note 10 and the latest Galaxy Lite pair of smartphones. On top of that, sources tell XDA Developers that the Galaxy S20’s screen will be relatively flatter and less curved than before, possibly for better ergonomics.

Surprisingly, as per these new pictures, Samsung is also doing away with the dedicated Bixby hardware button. The Galaxy S20 Plus only has a set of volume and power keys. The report doesn’t shed much light on the specifications. But based on past rumors, the Galaxy S20 Plus might come with a 6.7-inch OLED screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 or Samsung Exynos 990 chipset, at least 8GB of RAM, 256GB of onboard storage, and a 4,300mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus will launch alongside the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip clamshell foldable phone. In addition, Samsung will likely have numerous separate models for 5G and 4G connectivity. The new phones will be officially announced next month on February 12th ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The back of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, focusing on its rear cameras.

It's been about five months since the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra hit the scene. In the time since then, the S23 Ultra has made it obvious why it's one of the best smartphones money can buy. It looks great, has incredible performance, and has one of the most versatile cameras on the market.

Although the Galaxy S23 Ultra isn't my main Android phone these days, it is one that I love coming back to — and for one reason. The camera! The entire camera system on the Galaxy S23 Ultra has proven its worth time and time again, and over the course of this year, one aspect of it has stood out among every other phone I've used.

I tried to replace my GoPro with this new phone and its clever camera
The Asus Zenfone 10, along with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Apple iPhone 14 Pro, and the GoPro Hero 11 Black.

The Asus Zenfone 10's camera is attached to a gimbal, and with it comes the promise of shooting steady, shake-free video even when you’re moving around.

Does this mean it can take on the mighty GoPro, and perhaps mean you only need to carry around one device instead of two? To find out, we put the Zenfone 10 against the latest GoPro camera and two of its smartphone peers.

A cheaper Galaxy S23 is coming, and this is our first look at it
Samsung Galaxy S23 Fan Edition leaked render.

Samsung is apparently ready to launch a watered-down Galaxy S23 later this year, despite previous rumors it doesn’t exist. Smartprix has shared alleged renders of the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition (aka the Galaxy S23 FE), which is reportedly coming out later this year.

Notably, Samsung skipped a Fan Edition treatment for the Galaxy S22 after launching an S21 FE variant. Instead, the company lowered the asking price of Galaxy S22 following the launch of Galaxy S23 last year, keeping the former on the shelf as an entry point to the Galaxy flagship experience.
