Battery covers for the Galaxy Tab S are overheating and warping

When we reviewed the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.5, both of which received our Editor’s Choice award. We did not have any overheating issues. However, according to a report by Hi-Tech.Mail.Ru, the Galaxy Tab S has overheating issues, resulting in a distorted back cover.

Based on the report, the Galaxy Tab S’s processor, the Exynos 5420, heats up during heavy usage. While that is a common occurrence for modern-day mobile devices, especially for one that has a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, the Galaxy Tab S back cover becomes distorted as a result. While the deformation is not extensive, the changes are noticeable and could be blamed on the plastic rather than the processor itself.

The additional heat could be blamed on the stress placed on the Galaxy Tab S’ Mali-T628 GPU, though it is currently unknown. Also unknown is how widespread the issue is, though Samsung has reportedly failed to respond to complaints.

If you have had overheating issues with the Galaxy Tab S, let us know in the comments below. In the meantime, you can take a look at pictures of the distorted back cover.

The future is foldable, and while folding and flipping phones are still very much in their infancy as far as market share goes, they're definitely a growing part of the smartphone sector. Samsung is now on its fifth generation of foldable phones, and if any company can be said to have cracked the code on folding, it's Samsung. While the Z Fold series with its massive screen is cool, it's hard to beat the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5's clamshell-style flip-fold for convenience. That, along with the lower price, means it's likely to be the folding phone style for many.

Samsung has a fresh portfolio of tablets to take on the iPad lineup. These flagship Android slates span three size formats and price points. The new Galaxy Tab S9 trio is nearly identical in heft and footprint to the Galaxy Tab S8 series, save for a minor design tweak, a new chip, and fresh color options.

The pill-shaped camera island is gone, and we now have a floating lens look that's similar to that of the Galaxy S23 series phones. Plus, there’s an eye-pleasing beige color option to pick from this year. The rest of the package is a modest iterative upgrade at best.
