Samsung may soon launch an affordable variant of the Galaxy Tab S6

Samsung may soon introduce a more affordable variant of its flagship Galaxy Tab S6 tablet. A new leak by Android Headlines offers the first look at what is supposedly the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite that the company is expected to unveil in the “next few weeks.”

The new midrange tablet will inherit the same metallic design from its more premium sibling and also come bundled with Samsung’s latest-gen S-Pen stylus. Plus, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will likely be capable of wirelessly topping up the stylus — just like the Galaxy Tab S6.

To bring the price down, Samsung has cut corners in the spec sheet. Instead of the Galaxy Tab S6’s high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will run on a lower-end MediaTek 9611 processor that’s also found on several of Samsung’s affordable phones. On top of that, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will reportedly have 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of onboard storage. Android Headlines claims there will be two storage options and their availability will vary depending on the region. It will come preloaded with Android 10 and Samsung’s latest One UI 2.1 update.

While the report doesn’t reveal much about the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite’s screen, you can expect it to be largely identical to the Galaxy Tab S6 at least as far as its size is concerned.

This isn’t the first time Samsung has unveiled a ‘lite’ spinoff of its flagship tablet. Last year, the manufacturer had brought the Galaxy Tab S5e, which was received fairly well, earning a 9 out of 10 rating in our review. In addition, Samsung maintains the entry-level Galaxy Tab A series to take on Apple’s base iPad model.

It’s unlikely Samsung will hold a dedicated launch event for the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Similar to what it has done with other non-flagship products, the phone maker will probably announce the handset through a press release. We also don’t know how competitively the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will be priced for now. Given the Galaxy Tab S6’s $649 starting price, Samsung could stick to the sub-$400 bracket for the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and go up against Apple’s iPad Air.

The end plate on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6's hinge.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is one of the most popular phones of the year. It's easy to see why, as it's packed with features and high-end specs — our own Andy Boxall gave it four out of five stars in his review. It's successor is on the way, though — and we might just have a release date for the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, thanks to a leak from a Korean publication.

One rumor suggested the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition would be released on October 18 — just two days from now — but this new information throws a wrench into that. The site FNNews published a story that said the Z Fold Slim (another name for the Special Edition) will be released on the 25th of this month.
