New leak shows off Samsung’s One UI 2.0 — and it’s built on Android 10

Android 10 is on the way, and is expected to be released to the public in the near future. Samsung traditionally hasn’t been known for adopting new Android versions right away — but it looks like that could change with Android 10. Why? A new leak shows off Samsung’s One UI 2.0, and it’s built on Android 10.

Notably, the leak shows off the use of Android 10‘s new gesture-based navigation system — essentially meaning that Samsung has done away with the traditional navigation buttons, which it has held on to so far. This is good news for Google too — as it ensures some consistency between how users control different Android devices.

It’s important to note that it seems like the software allows users to choose between the gesture-based system or the classic navigation buttons — so you won’t necessarily have to make the switch if you don’t want to.

Another major change to One UI comes in the form of a new Quick Settings menu, which has been expanded to take up the whole screen. With full-screen quick settings, there are a ton of settings available — which not everyone may need. Still, it will be handy for power users who like to quickly access features in the Quick Settings menu.

Considering this beta version of the One UI software is running on the Galaxy Note 10, there are some Note 10-specific features that are showing up too. Notably, in the Quick Settings menu, there is a new Link to Windows option, which is one of the features that Samsung and Windows collaborated on for the Note 10. There’s also a new screen recorder feature, which is a nice touch.

Of course, it’s not yet known exactly when the new One UI might launch. Android 10 hasn’t even launched to the public yet, and while Samsung may want to be quick to adopt the new software, it’s doubtful that the new One UI 2.0 will launch at the same time. Instead, Samsung may launch a new developer program for One UI 2.0, and that will likely be at the next Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco in August.

You can check out the video showing off the new One UI 2.0 for yourself below. The video is in Portuguese.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will get 45W charging, One UI 4.1
Digital renders of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in Phantom White and Green colors with S Pen against a white background.

Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S22 series at its Unpacked 2022 event next month. While the company has already primed our anticipation by a sudden announcement of its Exynos 2200 SoC which will power the Galaxy S22 in certain regions, it is tight-lipped about the upcoming flagship phones. Despite that, almost all of the aspects of the Galaxy S22 series have been revealed courtesy of a wide range of leaks, with the latest one adding information about the charging speed and the software on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

As per MySmartPrice and tipster Ishan Agarwal, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will bring support for 45-watt fast charging. It must be noted that the Galaxy S20 series was the last flagship series from Samsung to sport 45W fast charging and the company reduced the charging rate on the  Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S21 lineups to 25W while adding support for the latest USB charging protocol, i.e., USB PD-PPS (Power Delivery Programmable Power Supply).
45W fast charging limited to Galaxy S22 Ultra?
MySmartPrice's leak corroborates a previous leak from another tipster, Roland Quandt, who shared the image below of the 45W charging brick for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. As expected, the charging brick will be sold separately since Samsung does not include a charger in the box of its flagship phones.

Samsung’s Android 12 and One UI 4 update comes to the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 3
One UI 4 and Android 12.

Samsung has made Android 12 and One UI 4 available to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 just weeks after releasing the update to the Samsung Galaxy S21 family. The update has dropped first in the company's native Korea, but will likely be making a worldwide rollout in the next week or so.

As with the S21's release that came last month, One UI 4 and Android 12 bring enhanced customization and security features to Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 owners. These include a new feature that themes your phone with the color of your wallpaper, customizable emoji, and more. Privacy wise, OneUI 4 owners will now see indicators when their cameras or microphones are in use, preventing apps from accessing those clandestinely.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Series to get One UI 4 Beta for Android 12
T-Mobile 5G test

Samsung has dramatically improved how it delivers software updates over the last few years. It is surely among the fastest phone companies in terms of delivering the latest Android updates, and the immediate availability of Android 12-based One UI 4 affirms that. While the Galaxy S21 series has already received stable One UI 4, Samsung has also opened One UI 4 beta trials for a range of flagship devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 20 series. Now, the company has announced beta tests for another flagship range: The Galaxy S10 series.

The One UI 4 beta trials were announced for the entire Galaxy S10 series — including the Galaxy S10e, the Galaxy S10, the Galaxy S10+, and the Galaxy S10 5G — via a post on Samsung Community. The trials are limited to South Korea at the moment, but we can expect them to open up in other countries in a number of days. If you are in South Korea, you can enroll in the beta trial in the Notices or Announcement sections of the Samsung Members app.
