Leaked Samsung Windows phone could be a future Verizon release

Samsung ATIV Odyssey Review windows phone 8

We’re all eagerly awaiting news on the Android-powered Galaxy S5, but it looks like Samsung hasn’t abandoned its Windows Phone efforts entirely. A new leak has provided some more information on a smartphone running the next version of Microsoft’s operating system. Originating from the @evleaks Twitter account, the tweet says we should look out for a Samsung Windows Phone with the model number SM-W750V soon.

Codenamed Huron, the phone is branded with Verizon’s logo. Anyone who follows the Galaxy S5 story will recognize Samsung’s new model number system at work here, where the letter added to the end of the model represents the network on which it will launch. This isn’t evidence the Huron will be a Verizon exclusive, although phones such as the Ativ Odyssey (seen at the top of the page) and the Lumia 928 show that the carrier has snagged exclusive rights to Windows Phone hardware in the past.

Samsung W750V Huron LeakAn image attached to the tweet gives us a glance at the phone itself, which looks like every other Samsung smartphone. It’s also mentioned the Huron will run Windows Phone 8.1, the next version of the OS expected to launch in the next few months.

A Samsung phone with the same model number has also shown up on a benchmarking website, where we learn the device may have a quad-core processor, an Adreno 305 GPU, and a 720p screen resolution. However, these may not be accurate specs, and as PhoneArena.com points out, other details for phones already on sale are wrong.

We last heard about the W750V in mid-January, when it was leaked with a 5-inch display and a 1080p pixel screen resolution. At the time, we speculated it may make an appearance during Mobile World Congress, but if the phone does turn out to be a Verizon exclusive, this isn’t as likely.

Before you head to the app store on your phone to buy a voice-recording app, take a moment to consider the apps that may already be installed on your phone. Why? In my experience, they're likely all you really need. I’ve recorded interviews and voice-overs for work for years, and I’ve found the two best examples come preinstalled on your phone already, so they’re entirely free to use.

Google Pixel Tablet on its charging dock.

Tablets are a dime-a-dozen these days, with offerings from all the great brands including Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and more. So, if you really want to stand out in a sea of similar tech, you need to do things a little differently. That's what Google's Pixel Tablet offers. How? It comes with a unique speaker dock that can be used to both charge the device and offer room-filling sound -- almost like a smart speaker add-on. Better yet, when your Pixel Tablet is docked it benefits from the Hub Mode, turning the device into a smart display, with digital photo frame support, smart home controls, and hands-free Google functionality. Of course, it could set you back at full price, normally $499 unless you find it included in a roundup of the best Google Pixel deals. Well, guess what? Thanks to a Best Buy Google Pixel Tablet deal, you can get it today for $439 and save $60. Hurry, though, it's part of Best Buy's recent 48-hour sale so it won't stick around for long.

Why you should buy the Google Pixel Tablet
Okay, okay, so in our Google Pixel Tablet review, Joe Maring did give it less than stellar remarks, but he called out its reliable fingerprint sensor, comfortability during use and excellent speaker dock. Honestly, how many tablets come with a matching speaker dock that transforms the entire experience? This tablet also marks a "lot of firsts" for Google, as it's the first tablet from the company in nearly five years, the first Android tablet in eight years, and can be converted into a smart home display with the speaker dock. All of which are notable milestones.
