Sprint offers BOGO on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, knocks $200 off iPads

The summer heat is almost here and Sprint is kicking things off with a hot deal on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

Starting Friday, current Sprint customers who buy an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus can get one free. Current customers do need one line that’s eligible for an upgrade and will also need to add one new line of service. New customers will obviously need to add two lines of service.

This deal works whether you purchase or lease the phones. You can even purchase one of them and lease the other if you wish. For even more flexibility, both phones can be either the iPhone 6S or the 6S Plus, or you can select one of each.

You can purchase the iPhone 6S 16GB for $0 down and 24 monthly installments of $27.09. The second iPhone 6S will be free after Sprint gives you a $27.09 monthly credit. Or you can purchase the iPhone 6S Plus 16GB for $0 down and 24 monthly installments of $31.25. Again, Sprint will give you a credit of $31.25 per month to make the second phone free. If you choose two different models, the one with the lower monthly cost will get the monthly credit.

If you opt for a lease instead, it’ll cost $26.39 a month for 18 months for the iPhone 6S 16GB and $31 per month for 18 months for the 6S Plus 16GB. The advantage to leasing is that the cost is much lower since it’s only for 18 months and you can upgrade anytime after 12 months. However, once you make all 18 payments, you have to turn in your phone since you don’t own it — or you can opt to purchase it.

Sprint does offer you the ability to return your phones after 30 days if you’re not happy. Plus, if you’re a new customer, you can save up to 50 percent off your current bill. That deal was supposed to end in February, but it keeps chugging along.

In addition to the BOGO for the iPhone, Sprint will also knock off $200 on the latest iPads when you purchase or lease the iPhone 6S or 6S Plus. You can choose from the iPad Mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 9.7, or iPad Pro 12.9 in any memory configuration. The credit is spread out over 24 months, so the cost of the iPad Air 2 16GB or iPad Mini 4 16GB would be only $13.75 per month instead of $22.09 per month. The iPad Pro 9.7 32GB would be only $22.08 per month instead of $30.42, and the iPad Pro 12.9 would be only $28.33 per month as opposed to $36.67.

Sprint didn’t specify when either of these deals will end, but it did say that they are limited time offers.

My least favorite iPhone 14 Pro feature is finally worth using
Dynamic Island Swiggy.

The iPhone 14 Pro is halfway through its reign as the “latest iPhone,” and one of the features that differentiated it from the regular iPhone 14 has only now started getting better. I’m talking about the Dynamic Island, which Apple labels as a “shape-shifting, multitasking, head-turning, game-changing iPhone experience” on its website.

In February, I wrote how the Dynamic Island is good to look at when it’s working, “but five months into its life span, the feature hasn’t caught up to the promises Apple made at launch.”

iOS 17 might add a huge Android feature to your iPhone
App Store displayed on an iPhone 14 Pro against a pink background

As Apple’s Wideworld Developers Conferencce gets closer, the rumors have continued coming in at rapid succession. Over the weekend, in his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that iOS 17 will support app sideloading to comply with European regulations. This would allow iPhone users to download apps and games that are hosted on digital storefronts that are not Apple’s official App Store — something Android phones have been able to do for years.

With the ability to sideload apps, customers don’t necessarily need to use Apple’s App Store to download and purchase apps or make in-app purchases. This change would also mean developers can bypass Apple’s 15% to 30% fees from all purchases.

One of the iPhone 15 Pro’s biggest features may not happen at all
The side of the iPhone 14 Pro showing the volume controls.

It’s spring, and that usually means that the iPhone rumor mill is nonstop — and that’s been especially true in recent weeks. It seems that some news about the next-generation iPhone 15 has been hitting the headlines every day lately, and there’s even been a lot of back and forth this year. One of the hottest rumors circulating has revolved around the iPhone 15 Pro’s buttons ... or possible lack thereof.

If you haven’t heard yet, there has been a lot of speculation that the iPhone 15 Pro will not only replace the mute switch with a button but that it will also ditch physical buttons and replace them with solid-state buttons using haptic engines.
