Sprint is offering to halve your phone bill again, but this time it’s throwing T-Mobile into the list of accepted carriers.
The move comes in a celebration of the company’s launch of LTE Plus in 77 cities. According to Sprint CTO John Saw, LTE Plus offers faster service with “double the network capacity and speed” as well as peak speeds in excess of 100Mbps (on certain devices like the iPhone 6S), stronger service with smart antenna technology, and more reliable service that uses three bands of spectrum.
Sprint offered a similar deal last year, but that applied to the service portion of the bill and excluded T-Mobile. The current deal, which will be available on from November 20 to January 7, applies to most carrier plans.
For example, if you have a 12GB plan for $80 from Verizon, Sprint will halve that so you pay $40 for the same data rate. After switching, customers will have 28 days trial period and can return their device if unsatisfied for no restocking fee. Sprint is also offering to pay up to $650 for switching, for fees such as early termination, but you’ll have to turn in your old phone.
The rate will last the length of the 2-year-contract through 2018. Unfortunately, the deal doesn’t apply to existing customers. Existing customers with Sprint’s $15 for 1GB plan or $10 Family Share Pack Access plan will get 1 year of free service along with a 7-inch Alcatel One Touch Pixi.
According to the fine print, “plans exclude unlimited music and video streaming, data carryover, tethering and cloud options.” So if you were hoping to move from T-Mobile’s unlimited plan — sorry.
“We’ve made tremendous strides with our network because we know consumers want wireless service that provides consistent speed and reliability,” said Marcelo Claure, Sprint CEO. “We are so confident that customers will have an amazing experience that we are encouraging them to give us a try with the biggest wireless offer in the history of our industry,” Marcelo Claure, CEO of Sprint, said in the announcement.
