T-Mobile and Eric Clapton to Release myTouch 3G Fender Edition

T-Mobile today announced the upcoming launch of the T-MobilemyTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition smartphone. The news of this rockin’ handset was announced about amonth back, but no one noticed it much due to a couple more notable handsets—mostly Google’s Nexus One. T-Mobile partnered with legendary musician and Fender guitarist Eric Clapton to help unveil the exclusive new phone. T-Mobile says this new comes exemplifies its myTouch 3G marketing campaign, which has featured a variety of iconic artists including comedians, musicians and sports figures, to prove that a smartphone can be unique and your own.

“The myTouch 3G, which runs on Android, gives us an open, highly customizable platform to create truly unique experiences that go beyond what’s possible on proprietary platforms,” said Andrew Sherrard, vice president of product development, T-Mobile USA. “The new limited edition myTouch is a perfect example of this innovation and personalization, and we are excited to bring our customers this special limited edition, feature-rich, music-inspired device.”

The device will ship with preloaded Clapton classics including “Layla,” “My Father’s Eyes,” “Rock ‘N’ Roll Heart,” and “Wonderful Tonight,” and T-Mobile is a proud supporter of Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. Clapton’s commercial featuring the Fender myTouch will debut on national TV on January 20. T-Mobile says some of the content preloaded on the phone includes popular Android Market applications, Guitar: Solo and Musical Light.

To accompany the preloaded Clapton tunes, the device also will ship with songs from Wyclef Jean, Avril Lavigne and Brad Paisley—other myTouch 3G campaigners. T-Mobile says the phone’s new accessories allow further customization and usability, including additional Fender-branded shells, a Fender carrying case, screen protector, and Rock Dock, a docking station equipped with speakers.

The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition is expected to be available starting January 20 nationwide at select T-Mobile retail stores and online at www.T-MobilemyTouch.com. The device will cost $179.99 (plus taxes and fees) with a new two-year service agreement and qualifying voice and data plan.

Okay, okay, so in our Google Pixel Tablet review, Joe Maring did give it less than stellar remarks, but he called out its reliable fingerprint sensor, comfortability during use and excellent speaker dock.
