Encouraging customers to keep taking summer vacation — or fall vacation, just vacation in general — the Un-carrier announced on Tuesday it would be “extending and expanding its summer travel bonus” by giving customers “unlimited high-speed data throughout South America and 19 European countries until 2017.” So go ahead, take that trip you did not get to when it was still warm out. Because really, summer is just starting in the southern hemisphere.
For T-Mobile customers planning on jet-setting before the year’s end, no extra action will be required to obtain these benefits. “Your T-Mobile phone just works abroad — exactly like it should — for exactly $0 extra and zero effort for unlimited data and texting,” the company said.
Noting that the Un-carrier “is always trying to give more to you,” John Legere, T-Mobile’s president and CEO noted, “I’ve always thought roaming limits were nuts. So when we found a way to expand our free summer data offer, I said ‘Hell yeah!’”
This deal extends upon T-Mobile’s offer around the Rio Olympic games, when the service provider offered free high-speed data in Brazil. Apparently, customers took advantage of this offer — as well as a deal that allowed for free high-speed data throughout Europe — using more than three times more data in July and August of this year than they did in 2015.
“T-Mobile customers will get a big Un-carrier upgrade to the fastest available data speeds up to 4G LTE throughout South America and 19 countries in Europe all the way until the end of 2016,” the company said. Destinations in South America eligible for the new deal are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Easter Island, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. European destinations include Armenia, Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
