Samsung launched two new high-end devices today at an event in New York City – the Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Note 5 – and T-Mobile is enticing customers to pick one up through a deal that will offer a free year of Netflix.

In what appears to be an exclusive deal, those who register to receive more information on one of the two new devices from the carrier before Friday, August 21 and follow through with a purchase by September 30 will get a full 12-month subscription to the streaming service free of charge. The phones will officially be available through T-Mobile next Friday, August 21.

The offer appears to be available to both new and existing T-Mobile customers, and requires that Samsung verifies the pre-registration. The fine print suggests that you must, of course, first pass credit approval, pay a deposit, and sign on to a “qualifying service.”

Further in the fine print, it appears the offer is limited to only the first 9,000 legal U.S. residents who apply, including those in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Once you’ve met all of the criteria, including pre-registering and physically buying the device, you need to submit an Offer Claim Form online, and include the qualifying purchase receipt.

The value of the prize about $108 for 12 months of Netflix service at $9 per month for new members for the “2 stream” plan. Once you get your Netflix code, it has to be registered by September 30 or it will expire. And it’s non-transferable, which means existing Netflix subscribers can’t “gift” the code to a friend or family member. (Drats.)

It seems like quite a bit of work, but certainly a worthwhile offer for those who are interested in grabbing one of the new devices.

Classified as a “phablet” (i.e. a cross between a phone and a tablet), the new Galaxy Note has a faster processor than its predecessor, while the S6 edge+ has the same curved design as the model before it, but a much larger screen at 5.7” versus 5.1”. Both are certainly large enough to enjoy some on-the-go binge-watching of your favourite series.

The Samsung Galaxy A16 sets a new record for budget Android phones

We've known that Samsung's next lineup of budget phones was on the way, especially after all of the information that leaked last week. Now, we have confirmation on several elements of the phone, but the most important of them all is the incredible (and unheard of) six years of security patches the Galaxy A16 5G will receive from launch. That means it will be fully up to date until October 31, 2030.

We reported on this possibility a couple of weeks ago, but now it's confirmed — and that's a big deal. Many budget phones only receive two years of security patches post-launch. The Galaxy A16 5G's six years of support puts it only one year behind Samsung's flagship models in the Galaxy S24 series. For a phone as cheap as the Galaxy A16, that's incredible.

Your next Samsung Galaxy Watch could have incredible battery life
A person wearing the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7.

The latest version of the Galaxy Watch will last roughly a single day on a charge, although the time varies depending on how you're using it. This is a decrease from how well the Galaxy Watch 6 performed. In other words, while the Galaxy Watch & is an amazing device, it could definitely be improved in certain areas — and it just might be that Samsung is testing a new battery technology for its wearables.

According to an article in BusinessKorea, Samsung has developed a never-before-seen battery: an ultra-small, all-solid-state device it calls a "dream battery." The battery is expected to be first used in the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch and is slated for mass production starting in the first half of 2026.
