If you’ve always wanted to put the Moto X through its paces but lacked the cash to do so, circle Monday June 9 in your diary. A new promotion advertised on the Motorola website promises that customers in the U.S. can try out the phone for two weeks and pay just a penny for the privilege.

According to the associated FAQ page, you’ll be asked to register a credit card to qualify, and you have the option to pay full price for the handset if you fall in love with it during testing. You can register for a promo code starting from 12am EST on Monday “while quantities last”, and there’s the option to either get a new SIM with the phone or use your existing one. “We want you to use Moto X as if you owned it,” says Motorola. The company will pay shipping costs both ways.

It’s already been a hectic year for Motorola. After Google sold the firm to Lenovo, it announced that it would be shuttering its factory in Forth Worth, Texas and moving the manufacturing operations overseas. As the dust settles on those developments, we’re expecting both new phones and an Android-powered smartwatch from Motorola in the near future.

If Motorola decides to offer up any more information on how this deal will work, we’ll post it up here. It looks as though you’ll be able to put together a customized Moto X through the usual online ordering process as normal and then play around with it for a fortnight — check out our comprehensive list of tips and tricks if you’re signing up. If you’re not blown away by the experience and decide to send it back, you’ll be $0.01 poorer.

It certainly impressed us when it appeared last fall, earning an Editor’s Choice recommendation in our full review of the phone. Jeffrey Van Camp called it “an amazing phone on almost every level” and praised both the power under the hood and the exterior design. Whether this latest promotion will succeed in getting the mobile into more pockets remains to be seen.

Motorola has just brought 5G to its 2022 Moto G product lineup with the introduction of two new models, the Moto G 5G and the Moto G Stylus 5G.

Following the trend from last year, the new Moto G Stylus 5G is essentially the 5G version of the standard 2022 Moto G Stylus. It packs the same battery, camera modules, and display, but moves from the MediaTek Helio G88 CPU to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 to deliver its 5G capabilities.

Moto Edge X30, first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone likely to launch on December 9
Motorola Edge X30

Motorola has been very active lately with launches in the mobile segment ranging from entry-level to high-end devices. Now it looks like the race for the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 smartphone is heating up and Motorola is trying to get the upper hand by being the first to launch a smartphone with the new chipset. The Lenovo-owned smartphone maker has confirmed that it will be announcing an Edge smartphone with Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip on December 9. This is likely to be the Moto Edge X30 (or just Motorola Edge), but there’s also a possibility of the Motorola G200 launching at the same time.

The teaser doesn’t reveal much more about the device, and a lot is still under wraps, but there are some tidbits that we can gather from the phone’s certification. For starters, its battery certification shows a 5,000mAh cell with a charging capacity of 68.2W, which is one of the highest in Motorola phones. Consumers in China are likely to have many choices in terms of storage as there are reportedly 6GB/8GB/12GB/16GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB storage options. Chen Jin, Lenovo China’s head of mobile division, also revealed that the phone has Gorilla Glass protection on both sides as well as the latest My UX 3.0 software.
