Can’t promise bells, but Uber will deliver free ice cream on demand this Friday

Ice cream’s always good but in the heat of summer, it’s especially wonderful. If you grew up in a neighborhood where summertime meant ice cream trucks driving through to the tune of ringing bells or circus music, get ready for this Friday, July 15. Uber drivers may not be ringing bells but they will deliver free ice cream on demand in more than 400 cities around the world, including some cities where the ride-sharing service doesn’t currently operate.

You won’t need to take a ride when the Uber car shows up, but you will have to get your order in between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. local time. An Uber driver will deliver a “flavorful frozen concoction” of Magnum brand ice cream to your location, according to Silicon Beat.

Last year Uber delivered ice cream in over 250 cities around the world, but only to cities with Uber service. It also used a range of ice cream suppliers in the promotion. This year in the U.S. Uber’s ice cream day is all about Magnum. Magnum is a multinational Unilever brand. Unilever also owns the Klondike, Breyers, and Ben and Jerry’s brands, so get your napkins ready, because it sounds like good-tasting ice cream is coming your way if you live in one of the covered cities.

You can check to see if your city is included at this website. Buffalo, New York is one of the cities on the list that doesn’t currently have Uber service, but residents will nevertheless be able to hail ice cream on Friday, even if they can’t call for rides. If you don’t already have the Uber app, which you will need to get ice cream in any of the cities in the promotion, you can get the app at this link.

You also might notice that 19 of the cities listed are in Australia and New Zealand where they’re in the middle of winter, but hey, ice cream is always good — it’s just better in the summer.

If you live in a city where UberEATS operates, you’ll get ice cream on Friday if you order through the UberEATS app or through UberEATS.com.

Before you head to the app store on your phone to buy a voice-recording app, take a moment to consider the apps that may already be installed on your phone. Why? In my experience, they're likely all you really need. I’ve recorded interviews and voice-overs for work for years, and I’ve found the two best examples come preinstalled on your phone already, so they’re entirely free to use.

Google Pixel Tablet just got its first big discount and it’s worth a look
Google Pixel Tablet on its charging dock.

Tablets are a dime-a-dozen these days, with offerings from all the great brands including Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and more. So, if you really want to stand out in a sea of similar tech, you need to do things a little differently. That's what Google's Pixel Tablet offers. How? It comes with a unique speaker dock that can be used to both charge the device and offer room-filling sound -- almost like a smart speaker add-on. Better yet, when your Pixel Tablet is docked it benefits from the Hub Mode, turning the device into a smart display, with digital photo frame support, smart home controls, and hands-free Google functionality. Of course, it could set you back at full price, normally $499 unless you find it included in a roundup of the best Google Pixel deals. Well, guess what? Thanks to a Best Buy Google Pixel Tablet deal, you can get it today for $439 and save $60. Hurry, though, it's part of Best Buy's recent 48-hour sale so it won't stick around for long.

Why you should buy the Google Pixel Tablet
Okay, okay, so in our Google Pixel Tablet review, Joe Maring did give it less than stellar remarks, but he called out its reliable fingerprint sensor, comfortability during use and excellent speaker dock. Honestly, how many tablets come with a matching speaker dock that transforms the entire experience? This tablet also marks a "lot of firsts" for Google, as it's the first tablet from the company in nearly five years, the first Android tablet in eight years, and can be converted into a smart home display with the speaker dock. All of which are notable milestones.
