This is the first Windows 10 smartphone from Vaio

Before Sony sold off the Vaio brand, it wasn’t known for smartphones, only for laptops. That has changed a little over the past months, primarily in Japan, where it launched an Android phone with the Vaio name on the back last year. Now it has returned with another phone, but without Google’s OS installed.

This time, it’s a Windows 10 phone.

It’s called the Phone Biz, an unusual name that actually sums up exactly who will want to buy it — business types. However, regulations folks shouldn’t overlook Vaio’s device, which is by far the best looking Windows 10 phone we’ve seen (despite the competition being slim). It’s wrapped up in a polished aluminum body, reminiscent of an HTC phone from the rear, while the Vaio branding still manages to exude some cool even after all it has been through.

Windows 10 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor and the Continuum feature is supported, meaning the phone becomes the heart of a desktop Windows machine when used with a special dock and a monitor. It definitely puts the ‘biz’ in business. The screen measures 5.5 inches and has a 1080p resolution, there’s 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 13-megapixel rear camera complete the Phone Biz’s spec sheet.

The Phone Biz is slated for an April release in Japan, where it’ll cost the equivalent of $425 unlocked without a contract, but it’ll also be sold through the NTT DoCoMo network. It’s not clear if the package will include the necessary hardware to get Continuum working.

Will the Phone Biz ever go on sale internationally? Vaio has started to release its laptops outside Japan, but Windows Phone is hardly a popular choice for smartphone buyers at the moment, making it less likely the phone will be treated in the same way. We wait to be surprised, though.

Huawei’s Nova 10 smartphones offer a freakishly huge selfie camera
Huawei Nova 10 Pro.

Just a couple of months following its debut in China, Huawei is bringing the Nova 10 and its Pro variant to the European market. The two phones have a lot in common, and there’s a trio of surprises in here, both good and bad.
First, neither of these phones offers 5G support. There’s also no headphone jack or a microSD card slot. On the positive side, Huawei has fitted a massive 60-megapixel selfie camera on both devices, which is capable of recording 4K videos.

Coming to the innards, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G runs the show. Notably, the "plus" version of this chip supports 5G and powers phones such as the Nothing Phone 1. On the front is a 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate.

How to pre-order the OnePlus 10T
Holding the OnePlus 10T in front of a green plant.

The OnePlus 10T, OnePlus' performance flagship for 2022, is here. Following weeks of endless leaks and rumors, OnePlus formally announced the phone on August 3. It did so in big fashion, hosting an extravagant launch event in New York City -- OnePlus's first in-person gathering in over two years. The big change this year, of course, is support for AT&T's 5G networks, which has now been turned on. You can't buy your OnePlus 10T directly from AT&T, but if you're looking to put your existing SIM in your new phone, rest assured that it'll work.

But while the OnePlus 10T was unveiled at the start of August, pre-orders didn't open until September 1. So that meant you had to wait. Thankfully, that waiting period is now over. Unfortunately, it does mean the start of a whole new waiting period since the phone won't be finally available until September 29. OnePlus is really making us wait for this phone, so just try not to get impatient.

OnePlus 10T vs. Nothing Phone 1 camera battle shouldn’t be so close
Nothing Phone 1 and OnePlus 10T camera modules.

The OnePlus 10T is the first new phone to come from OnePlus since former co-founder Carl Pei launched his company’s first phone, the Nothing Phone 1. The OnePlus 10T is more expensive than the Nothing Phone 1, yet isn’t as stylish and doesn’t share the same materials, but there are some similarities in the cameras. Putting Pei’s former company’s new phone against his own seemed like an opportunity too good to miss, so which has the better camera?
OnePlus 10T and Nothing Phone 1 camera specs
The OnePlus 10T has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 main camera, with optical image stabilization (OIS), plus an 8MP wide-angle camera and a basic 2MP macro camera. The Nothing Phone 1 also has a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera with OIS, but it's joined by a 50MP wide-angle camera and entirely foregoes a third camera. On the front of both is a 16MP selfie camera.

What makes this test interesting is seeing the differences not only in the way both companies tune the same main camera, but also in how the different processors assist with image reproduction. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the OnePlus 10T is the top chip available from maker Qualcomm, while the Nothing Phone 1 has a mid-range Snapdragon 778G processor.
