We just heard the news that Android has a stranglehold on the US Smartphone market, and it doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon. In a leaked screenshot of Verizon’s roadmap for the next few months, we see two trends emerging: There are several Android devices coming out, and a large amount of LTE devices as well. There is even a mystery Samsung tablet showing up on the list.
Of the 16 devices outlined on the report, it looks as though there are seven 4G LTE devices coming out in the next few months. Granted, three of those devices are tablets, but that means that there should be four new LTE phones by the end of the year. There are a few LTE devices that stand out from the report. One such phone is the Samsung Stratosphere, which is hopefully the Verizon flavor of Galaxy S II. The Stratosphere is slated to come out on September 8, and comes with Gingerbread. There is also the Blackberry Curve 9370 with 4G which might be the first 4G Blackberry to hit the market when it lands in September.
In terms of Android devices, there are plenty of those as well. We of course have the Droid Bionic on the list, and it shares the September 8 release date with the Stratosphere and Curve. The other wild card Android device on the list would have to be the Samsung Galaxy Tab P8. It is safe to assume that this will be the 8.9-inch tablet from Samsung that was announced ages ago.
It is starting to look that the Droid 3 might be one of the last high-end 3G Android devices that Verizon will offer. It is amazing to see just how quickly Verizon was able to not only roll out 4G coverage, but also 4G devices. By the end of the year there will be more than 10 Verizon LTE devices on the market.
