Microsoft promises a Windows 10 update for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 owners

Got a Windows Phone 8 Lumia? It will definitely get Windows 10

Microsoft announced Windows 10 in September 2014, and while we know it will be released next year, we don’t know what current Windows Phone handsets will be graced with the update. We’ve combined official announcements with less formal news that we’ve heard in order for you to make sure when Windows 10 is headed to your device.

All Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 handsets will be updated

While it’s still too early to determine exactly how many current Windows Phone devices will receive the Windows 10 update, the Lumia Twitter account had no problem stating that all Lumia Windows Phone 8 handsets will receive the update.

Since we’re still a year away from the update, it’s too early to determine timeframes and carrier availability. Regardless, considering the majority of Windows Phone devices out there are Lumia-branded, this should come as good news to the majority of Windows Phone users.

We’ll update this space as we hear from other Windows Phone manufacturers, such as HTC and Samsung.

Apple is reportedly planning an event on September 7 to launch new phones and smartwatches, reports Bloomberg. Earlier this month, notable tech product leaker Max Weinbach also tweeted about an Apple event happening close to the September 6 window. The star of the event will be the iPhone 14, of course.

To recall, Apple introduced the iPhone 13 series on September 15 last year, which falls roughly in the same debut window as the tentative date for iPhone 14’s arrival. The report also mentions that retail employees have been notified about a September 16 release slot for new products.

OnePlus 10T vs. Nothing Phone 1: more expensive isn’t always better
The side of the OnePlus 10T showing the power key.

The OnePlus 10T bills itself as a cheaper version of the OnePlus 10 Pro. Featuring much the same design, it adds the faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and boasts fast charging at an incredible 150W. It also retails at $649, making it more affordable than its more premium stablemate, which retailed at $899 when it was released in April (but which has now been reduced).

With a starting price of $649, the 10T sits somewhere towards the upper end of the mid-price bracket of smartphones. This category also includes the Nothing Phone 1, which sought to challenge established phone manufacturers in July when it came out with its unique stylings and easy-to-use software. At only 399 British pounds (or about $480), it's cheaper than the 10T but still qualifies as a competitor. The Nothing Phone 1 has a 6.55-inch OLED screen, 4,500mAh battery, and powerful dual-lens rear camera setup.
