Yelp plans to add new video feature to its reviews

yelp pans add new video feature reviews

Sometimes the written word just isn’t enough to truly convey what you mean — especially when describing your favorite brunch place.  That’s why the social review site Yelp is letting users take their opinions one step further.

On Thursday, Yelp confirmed that it will be adding a new video feature to its mobile app, allowing users to upload short clips along with their written reviews.   The company’s mobile product manager, Madhu Prabaker, told Business Insider that the new feature will allow users to better capture the atmosphere of a restaurant or business.

“It will be a reward for businesses that go to great lengths to achieve a certain ambiance, whether by having a certain lighting or the music at just the right level,” Prabaker said.

The video option will be available for “elite” Yelp members starting in June before becoming available for everyone.  The videos must be between three and 12 seconds each, and once recorded, users will have the option of choosing a cover photo and writing a short caption to go along with it.

Yelp will utilize its current system for filtering photos so that nothing inappropriate makes it through.  As more users submit videos, the ones voted most helpful will show up first on the top of the app’s photo and video feed.

So get ready Yelp users: Everyone’s opinions are about to get a whole lot louder.

The best thing about Android 13 isn’t a new feature or setting — it’s something else
Android 13 logo on a Google Pixel 6a.

After months of testing, Google has finally unleashed Android 13, its current Android smartphone update for 2022. As far as updates go, it's not one that you'll notice. I've been using Android 13 for around two months prior to its release, and it's been a pretty whelming experience.

Unlike iOS 16, which is a large and hefty update, Android 13 is rather pedestrian. There's not much differentiating it visually or functionally from previous Android releases. Much of what sets Google apart from Apple on this front is that Apple frontloads all its significant app improvements into its big iOS releases. Google trickles its features out as soon as they're ready, so many features announced with Android 13 -- like a revamped Google Wallet and tablet-optimized apps -- have already landed. Because of that, Android 13 is an update that's barren of excitement.

Visible just added a new plan, lowered prices, and took away a huge feature
Visible wireless program logo with sponsored tag.

Visible has a significant revamp to its Verizon-backed phone service, adding new features and taking away some at the same time. Up until now, the company prided itself on its singular all-digital plan, but now Visible's single wireless plan has been reworked to cost less and is being offered alongside a brand new option. The two plans now available are called Visible, the reworked original plan, and the all-new Visible Plus.

The Visible plan includes unlimited talk, text, data, and hotspot for just $30 per month — a reduced price from the $40 per month the plan used to cost. The other plan is Visible Plus, which includes 5G Ultra Wideband access, a first for the company's offerings. Visible Plus also includes 50GB of "premium network experience," roaming coverage in North America, and global calls to more than 30 countries outside of the U.S. You get all of that for $45 per month, just $5 more than the cost of the old Visible plan and $10 more compared to the new one.

Remember Yelp? It’s back with a brand new app design

Restaurant and business recommendation site Yelp is back in a major way with a sleek Android app redesign that could see it reach the heights of popularity that it once had. The app improves the user experience on just about every level, putting local businesses front and center while providing updates on things like menu additions and other service updates. Although a lot of the information can be found in other places, the new and improved Android Yelp app consolidates it all into easily digestible pieces for easy viewing and quick searches.

In addition to providing official updated information from local businesses, the new update makes it easier than ever to find and leave user reviews thanks to the map feature that uses your phone's location to list all nearby businesses. This means that you can easily go from looking at a restaurant's hours, writing a review about it, and finding new places in your neighborhood — all in a few taps.
