It seems that, with every unauthorized biography Lifetime produces, the casting just gets better and better … in the cheesiest of ways, of course. And the latest to grace our computer screens are the eight actors who have been cast to play Brandon, Dylan, Brenda, Kelly, Steve, Andrea, Donna, and David in the Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210 Story.

Lifetime has been getting a lot of attention for its series of unauthorized biographies that have set out to tell the “true story” behind some of the ‘90s most wonderfully obsessive teenage guilty pleasures – from Saved by the Bell, to Full House and Melrose Place. The idea is to reveal the alleged juicy secrets behind the cameras – as if there weren’t enough on camera with a show like 90210. Forget about the love triangle that was Dylan/Brenda/Kelly. What about all of the drama that has come out over the years about rifts with Shannon Doherty (who played Brenda) and other cast members, back stories behind Tori Spelling (who played Donna) and her father, mogul and show producer Aaron Spelling, rumoured flings between Doherty and her on-screen twin Jason Priestley (who played Brandon) and so much more?

Along with decking the cast out in full ‘90s attire, complete with faded jeans and high shorts, Lifetime has managed to perfectly replicate the hairstyles, too, right down to Steve’s signature blonde curls (originally worn by Ian Ziering), Kelly’s bangs (originally owned by Jennie Garth), and Dylan’s bad boy sideburns (originally popularized by Luke Perry.)

This time around, however, Lifetime has selected a cast of not-so-no-names – some of these actors have had serious roles on TV. Max Lloyd Jones (Switched at Birth) will play Brandon, Samantha Munro (Degrassi) Brenda, Abbie Cobb (Suburgatory) will play Kelly, and Abby Ross (Once Upon a Time) will play Donna. Alyssa Lynch will reprise her role as Tiffani Thiessen, this time in the role of the evil Valerie – she previously played Thiessen in the character of Kelly Kapowski in the Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story. Jesy McKiney will play Dylan, David Lennon plays Steve, Michele Goyns  as Andrea (originally played by Gabrielle Carteris), and Ross Linton as David (originally played by Brian Austin Green.)

And yes, even Aaron Spelling and show creator Darren Starr will be included, played by Dan Castellaneta (The Simpsons) and Adam Korson, respectively. Fun fact: this won’t be the first time Castellaneta plays Spelling – he also played the producer and actor in 2004 in the TV movie Behind the Camera: the Unauthorized Story of Charlie’s Angels.

The Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210 Story will air on Lifetime on October 3, with The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story to follow on October 10. The Unauthorized Full House Story is set to air some time before then. Set your DVRs and remember: Donna Martin graduates!

Everything coming to PBS in November 2024
Rachel Shenton and Nicholas Ralph in All Creatures Great and Small.

There are no new British dramas premiering on PBS in November, but there's more than enough programming to see you through the penultimate month of 2024. Ken Burns is premiering his new documentary, Leonardo da Vinci, about the world's most famous Renaissance man, artist, and inventor. And PBS has several other documentary and nature programs slated to run throughout the month.

PBS' non-partisan coverage of the 2024 presidential election will culminate on Tuesday, November 5. But if you're really missing your British dramas, there are encore presentations of All Creatures Great & Small and Call the Midwife coming as well.

What’s new on Amazon Prime Video in November 2024
A man stands in front of a caution sign.

James Patterson's Alex Cross character is getting a third chance in live-action this month on Amazon Prime Video. Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry have previously portrayed the titular detective character. Now, Black Adam's Aldis Hodge steps into the role. The new Cross series is Prime Video's biggest debut in November, but far from the only noteworthy addition. There are a lot of new additions to the streamer's movie lineup, including The Godfather trilogy, Silver Linings Playbook, and the unconventional vampire film Abigail.

Additionally, Prime Video is rebooting Cruel Intentions as a drama series, which has the potential to be another big hit for the streamer. And aside from Die Hard, there are only a handful of Christmas titles coming this month. We can appreciate a little restraint, especially since December will likely be a very different story.

If you've ever loved the Star Wars and Indiana Jones themes of John Williams, then you should watch the new documentary Music By John Williams, which is available on Disney+ as of November 1.

A really charming Christmas-related animated short, An Almost Christmas Story, is arriving on November 15, while Beatles '64 adds yet another Beatlemania documentary to Disney+ on November 29. On that same date, Disney is also celebrating the 60th anniversary of Mary Poppins this month by releasing a special documentary about one of Walt Disney's personal favorite films. And finally, Disney gets to capitalize on the release of Wicked by bringing Oz the Great and Powerful to Disney+ near the end of November.
