A new cover story in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly reveals some juicy details about the upcoming season of American Horror Story: Hotel. It seems that, in addition to a host of new characters and a fresh storyline, the fifth season will also have some ties back to the inaugural season, reports Paste Magazine.
The throwbacks will include a glimpse into the Murder House from season one, as well as a guest appearance from Marcy, known as the “realtor-from-hell.”
It’s a fitting return for the character, given that American Horror Story: Hotel seems to focus around some pretty hellish behavior. And Lady Gaga will be at the center as the new owner of Hotel Cortez, which was built in 1930 by serial killer James March (played by returning cast member Evan Peters) mainly for the purpose of hiding his “murderous activities.”
We now know that Gaga’s character, a socialite known as Countess, (spoiler alert) has some murderous propensities herself. But it seems there’s an intriguing reason: it’s only for blood. She’s not a vampire, per se, according to the report, she just engages in vampire-esque behaviors, most notably the need to consume human blood. Creator Ryan Murphy calls it a “form of hemophilia” relating to an “ancient blood virus.” Which means the Countess isn’t actually immortal.

Blood, it appears, isn’t the only thing Countess has a need to consume: she also has a serious penchant for love and sex. And, as previously revealed, this leads to a love triangle between her and fellow, er, bloodsucker, Donovan (played by one of the new cast members Matt Bomer) and Tristan, a male model played by Finn Wittrock.
We already knew details of other characters, as revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this month, including front desk clerk and Donovan’s mom Iris (Kathy Bates), junkie Sally (Sarah Paulson), and cross-dresser Liz Taylor (Denis O’Hare). But we now know a bit more about detective John Lowe, played by Wes Bentley. He’ll be trying to solve the mystery around someone known as the Ten Commandments Killer, and figuring out the story behind something called The Addiction Demo, a creature with no eyes or mouth, but a serious “drillbit dildo.” Yeah, they went there.
American Horror Story: Hotel seems to have all of the horrific elements to make for a seriously creepy season – from odd creatures to mysterious characters, murder, sex, violence, and sort-of-vampirism. The new season debuts on October 7 on FX.
