The region of the Atlantic Ocean known as the Bermuda Triangle has long been a source of fascination for anyone intrigued by the mysterious occurrences associated with it, and now it appears that it’s also earned the attention of Hollywood in a big way. A new report indicates that not one but three films are currently in development right now that feature the Bermuda Triangle as a major plot element.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Terminator Genisys producers Skydance Productions and Jurassic World studio Universal Pictures are in various stages of development on big-screen projects involving the infamous stretch of ocean loosely defined by the triangle formed between the coasts of Miami, FL, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the island of Bermuda. And as ComingSoon.net points out, there’s also another film in development at Warner Bros. Pictures titled The Bermuda Triangle to add to the mix.

While it’s nothing new for studios to develop projects with similar themes in parallel (for example, the meteor-related disaster films of the 1990s, Sudden Impact and Armageddon), the films generally tend to differ on their approach to the theme. Details are scarce regarding the three Bermuda Triangle movies at this point, but the projects are likely to diverge more as the studios learn more about the competing projects and look to differentiate their own films.

The script commissioned by Skydance is being written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard, the co-writers on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, who are working from a screenplay originally penned by the duo responsible for 2009’s Friday the 13th reboot, Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

At Universal Pictures, Ouija screenwriters Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are currently rewriting a Bermuda Triangle-based script from Spider-Man 2 writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Snowden and Stiles were reportedly brought in late on Ouija to bring the film’s budget down to a more manageable level, so it could be that Universal’s Bermuda Triangle movie could be a lower-budget project, too.

The third project has been in development for quite a while now, with Warner picking up a script written by 12 Rounds writer Daniel Kunka back in 2013 that was envisioned as an action movie set in the Bermuda Triangle. There’s been little movement on that project since it was acquired by Warner, but with the other two films moving forward, the studio is likely to take another look at its own project.

Although the Bermuda Triangle is one of the more famous hotspots for conspiracy theorists, there have been surprisingly few major movie releases tied to the notorious region. The 2009 thriller Triangle is one of the more recent projects (though it never specifically identifies its setting as The Bermuda Triangle), followed by several low-budget, made-for-television movies and limited series. The little-known 1978 film The Bermuda Triangle (pictured above) may be the most prominent film to specifically focus on the Bermuda Triangle, in fact.

There’s currently no release dates set for any of the films in development.

10 best Batman stories ever, ranked
Batman Year One cover

Bounding from rooftop to rooftop, the Dark Knight never misses his mark. He operates like a well-oiled machine tracking bad guys, beating them to a bloody pulp, and throwing them in the slammer - or Arkham Asylum should they be anyone of Gotham's notable supervillains. As the brainchild of Bob Kane and Bill Finger, an artist and writer duo, Batman has been pounding the pavement of Gotham ever since his debut in Detective Comics in 1939. He's undergone a number of changes since his original conception ultimately becoming the brooding powerhouse we know today.

Most understand the basic tenants of Batman these days. His parents were murdered before his young eyes leading him down this path of personal vindication and pursuit of justice. Batman, in most iterations, never resorts to killing -- the one crime that separates his outlaw vigilante operations from the real criminals. Of course, it wasn't always that way. In Batman's earliest days, he had no qualms about ending the lives of baddies on the streets. Even now, some stories and films like Tim Burton's gothic take on the character depict him looking on with cold and uncaring glares as criminals meet their end. Regardless, Batman is mostly a well-established hero simply seeking justice and there are countless stories of the Caped Crusader. Let's take a look at the best among them.
