There have been many adaptations of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, but this is the only one that also adapts the hit musical that was inspired by the novel. In the 19th century, Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) is a reformed criminal who is hounded by the fanatical policeman, Javert (Russell Crowe). At the risk of his own freedom, Valjean cares for the dying Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and vows to protect her daughter, Cosette (Amanda Seyfried).

Years later, Javert catches up with Valjean just as France is on the verge of a revolution. Cosette has fallen hard for the revolutionary, Marius Pontmercy (Eddie Redmayne), and Valjean will have to risk his life once again for his surrogate daughter and her would-be lover.

A man raises an arm in a boxing ring in The Fighter.

Few streaming services have the wide array of titles that Amazon Prime offers, but the movies on the streaming service aren't necessarily there forever.

As is the case with all streamers, the titles on Amazon Prime Video cycle on and off the service fairly frequently, and as a result, it's important to catch the movies you really want to watch before they leave altogether. Here, we've gathered five of the best movies that are set to exit the streamer this month.

The best thrillers on Netflix right now
The cast of River Wild.

Thrillers are often built around surprise and unforeseen twists. And the month of August has already had a twist of a different kind for Netflix, which has premiered a Universal Pictures flick, River Wild, that immediately rose to become one of the most-streamed films on the platform. This River Wild reboot pulled off this feat with minimal promotion, but it was quickly discovered and embraced by Netflix subscribers.

Netflix also added a handful of classic thrillers this month including In the Line of Fire and Collateral, both of which are on loan from other studios. That goes a long way towards giving Netflix a very impressive lineup of thrillers. But if you need a hand narrowing down the options, we've updated our list of the best thrillers on Netflix right now.

The best animated movies on Netflix right now
A cat points a bat at another cat in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

While Nimona has been the big Netflix original animated film of the summer, it's far from the only addition to the lineup. Netflix is making sure that animation fans are well served in August with the first two Despicable Me movies, Bee Movie, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. However, Netflix's biggest recent addition is one of 2022's biggest animated hits: DreamWorks' Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Netflix's deals with Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, and Universal Pictures have given it a powerhouse library of animated films. And that's before we even get into Netflix's impressive originals like The Sea Beast. To help you keep track of what's new and what you can stream right now, we've updated our list of the best animated movies on Netflix.
