It seems that socially-awkward Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) from the hit series The Big Bang Theory is finally ready to take that next step with his girlfriend Amy Farrah-Fowler (played by Mayam Bialik). Tonight’s season finale will (spoiler alert!) see the pair finally consummate their relationship, reports CNN.
We reported last month that Bob Newhart was scheduled to make another guest appearance on the show, in the form of an apparition of Sheldon’s now-deceased childhood hero Arthur Jeffries (a.k.a. Professor Proton) who returns to help him make an “important life decision.” That life-altering decision has been confirmed to be whether Sheldon attends the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, or stays in and celebrates Amy’s birthday.
Scheduled to air on CBS tonight at 8 p.m. ET, the episode, aptly-called The Opening Night Excitation, will see Sheldon finally shed his intimacy walls, thus clearly making the right decision to help move his relationship to the next level. Star Wars, after all, will still be in theaters for a long, long time.
The occasion will undoubtedly have fans equally as excited, as it follows a short break-up, and (another spoiler alert) a sweet resuming of their romance in last week’s episode once Sheldon realized just how much Amy means to him. “You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, as the song goes,” Chuck Lorre, the show’s co-creator told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “Missing Amy was wearing on him in a way he hadn’t anticipated.”
For a self-professed geek, and sci-fi fanatic the choice to sleep with Amy, and thus lose his virginity, is a huge step for both the show and the character. His best friend and less-socially awkward fellow geek Leonard (Johnny Galecki), as viewers know, already got hitched on the season premiere episode to his long-time on-and-off-girlfriend and neighbor Penny (Kaley Cuoco).
The characters of Sheldon and Amy and the ultra-cute (but seriously awkward) relationship between them, dubbed “Shamy,” has been a fan favorite since Bialik joined the cast in 2010.
