Corden reluctantly takes Martin in, and they proceed on the 400-mile-plus trek to Santa Clara, CA, in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the Super Bowl will be held. They quickly begin the sing-a-long with Coldplay’s breakout hit Yellow from the 2000 album Parachutes.

The pair then continue on to sing a number of other hits, mostly new ones, like Hymn for the Weekend, Heroes (we could be), Us Against the World, and Paradise. The best part? When Martin pauses the song to question Corden about the clearly incorrect lyrics he’s singing in the tune When I Ruled the World.
In between belting out tunes, which also includes Martin pulling out a mini keyboard for musical accompaniment, they discuss everything from Martin’s musical heroes, to the game of “American football.” When Martin names Bruno Mars as one of the musicians he looks up to, Corden doesn’t miss the opportunity to laud the Uptown Funk singer’s half-time show at the 2014 Super Bowl, suggesting that no one will be able to match that.
The duo make a few stops, including to a convenience store where they pick up snacks, and San Fran beanies; and to grab some lemonade from kids who set up a stand on the side of the road. We also get a glimpse of Martin’s talent for impressions, as he tries to channel Bruce Springsteen and Mick Jagger.
In the end, Corden is just far too tired to continue driving so they check into a motel and the hilarity continues.
Carpool Karaoke, a recurring segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden, has already featured a long list of celebrities like Mariah Carey, One Direction, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, and Justin Bieber. Martin marks the second British musician to sit shotgun in a row: last month, Adele rode along with Corden.
