It’s been a long road for Knight of Cups, but the Christian Bale-starring film has finally been slated for release. Broad Green Pictures has scheduled the film to open in U.S. theaters in March 2016.

Knight of Cups is a story about Rick (Bale), a successful screenwriter living in Hollywood whose life doesn’t feel very fulfilling. With one brother in a bad situation and the other having tragically died, Rick gets lost in Hollywood excess and women as a distraction. (Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett star as two of his love interests.) Through the course of the movie, the people he meets guide his journey. As Broad Green Pictures puts it, “every encounter that comes his way brings him closer to finding his place in the world.”

The film, which is described as a fantasy drama, draws its title from the tarot card of the same name, presumably hinting at Rick’s character. The Knight of Cups is said to represent many things, including a person who brings ideas and opportunities, as well as one who struggles with distinguishing between truth and lies. Rick’s struggle as a writer living the high life in Hollywood reminds us a bit of Californication, but the movie sounds like it may be deeper and darker.

Filmed in 2012 without a completed story, Knight of Cups spent multiple years in post-production before premiering at the Berlin Film Festival in February. It was written and directed by Terrence Malick and produced by Nicolas Gonda, Sarah Green, and Ken Kao. In addition to Portman and Blanchett, Bale is joined by Antonio Banderas, Brian Dennehy, Freida Pinto, and others.

Along with Knight of Cups, Broad Green Pictures has partnered with Malick on multiple upcoming films, including an untitled project that also stars Bale, Portman, and Blanchett, plus Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, and other big names. The same production team is also onboard for that project.

Christian Bale is in talks to join Thor: Love and Thunder
Christian Bale

Oscar-winning actor and former Bruce Wayne-portrayer Christian Bale seems primed to cross comic book universes as he is in talks to join Chris Hemsworth in Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder, according to a Collider report.

The star of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy is no stranger to superhero films but this would be his first foray into comic book films since 2012's The Dark Knight Rises. His role is being kept under wraps and given that lovable villain turned good guy turned villain again, Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston), appears to be returning in some capacity, it's difficult to speculate if Bale will be an ally or enemy to Thor.
