Daredevil being rebooted under David Slade

It was probably just a matter of time. The original Daredevil film starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Gardner, and directed by Mark Steven Johnson is now a whole EIGHT years old after all, so the franchise was do a reboot.

The website Commingsoon.net is reporting that 20th Century Fox has begun negotiating with David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night) to reboot the franchise. It will not be connected to the previous film or its spin-off Elektra.

The news isn’t all that surprising, and not just because Hollywood seems to be allergic to new ideas. The current deal between 20th Century Fox and Marvel was set to expire unless the studio has a Daredevil film in production. If the film isn’t in production by the end of this year, the property will revert back to Marvel Studios, which is now owned by Disney and–more importantly–is now making its own movies based on its properties.

The hiring of Slade is not yet a done deal, but if it go through, Slade will likely begin work on Daredevil after completing work on the horror film The Last Voyage of the Demeter, which chronicles the voyage of the ship that brought the a legendary vampire to England in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Daredevil: How a Disney+ soft-reboot could tie up loose ends

From 2015 to 2018, Marvel's Daredevil had cemented its case for being some of the best TV that the comic book/superhero genre has ever produced. The show captured the essence of writer Frank Miller's crime-noir reinvention of the Man Without Fear in the early 1980s while blending it with the grit of a crime series you might find on HBO. Fans were disappointed once Netflix canceled it due to the impending arrival of Disney+ as a direct competitor, but this past December's Spider-Man: No Way Home and the streamer's Hawkeye series have brought both Matt Murdock and the Kingpin back into the MCU fold.

The show's seen a resurgence in popularity since being indirectly put back under the spotlight, with reports also now swirling of actors Charlie Cox (Kin) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket) appearing in other MCU projects before a rumored new solo series for Disney+. Getting into debates on canonicity can be as confusing as it is annoying and petty, though, it seems like Cox and co.'s revival will be in the form of a soft reboot. Marvel Studios will likely keep the same general continuity of the original show's story while simultaneously serving as a fresh jumping-on point -- much like a new comic book run on a character with a new writer/artist team. But even with a soft reboot, the ghosts of Daredevil's past, from complex love triangles to bitter arch-nemeses, can come back to haunt (or grace) the Devil of Hell's Kitchen on Disney+.

For over a decade, Bob's Burgers has been a key show on Fox's Sunday night animation block. And now that the series is nearing the end of its 12th season, it's finally heading to the big screen. This May, The Bob's Burgers Movie is bringing the Belcher family's adventures to a new level, not entirely unlike The Simpsons Movie did in 2007. That's why it's fitting that the movie is also pushing the Belcher family to the brink. And if they don't come out on top, then the Belchers won't have anywhere to go home to.

Fede Álvarez will direct an Alien stand-alone film for Hulu

Last year, 20th Century Studios revealed that Prey, an original film set in the Predator universe, will arrive on Hulu later this summer. Now, it's the Xenomorphs' turn to get a Hulu original film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fede Álvarez has signed on to write and direct a stand-alone Alien film for Hulu.

Álvarez previously directed an intense reboot of Evil Dead in 2013 that brought the series back to its horror roots. He went on to direct another hit horror flick, Don't Breathe. Álvarez recently co-wrote and produced Netflix’s remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
