Taylor Swift might appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) one day. However, it will not be in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Despite reports stating Swift is not in Deadpool & Wolverine, speculation about the pop star’s involvement in the upcoming Marvel film reignited after Lady Deadpool’s cameo in the latest trailer. With Deadpool & Wolverine arriving in theaters later this week, the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds, finally put those Swift cameo whispers to bed.

“I will say once and for all that the cameo thing with Taylor because she’s our friend — that is not in this film,” Reynolds told E! News.

In June 2024, Entertainment Weekly reported that Swift would not appear in the third Deadpool film. Swift had been tipped to cameo as Dazzler, a member of the X-Men, or Lady Deadpool, a variant of Deadpool. Swifties will now wait to see if Swift signs on for another superhero project. If that happens, Reynolds believes she could play his role as Deadpool.

“I always do say that if anyone ever were to take over the role of Deadpool, actually Taylor would be very good,” Reynolds explained. “Because that’s a superpower that I don’t know that she shows everyone too often: She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

Even without Swfit, Deadpool & Wolverine remains the most anticipated movie of the summer. Reynolds reprises his role of Wade Wilson/Deadpool, while Hugh Jackman joining in to play Logan/Wolverine for the first time since 2017.

The film will be a multiversal adventure and feature the TVA, the organization introduced in Loki. Additional cast members include Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters on July 26, 2024.

Someone remade Deadpool & Wolverine in Fortnite, and it’s awesome
Deadpool battles in a forest in Fortnite.

It's safe to say that a lot of people have watched Deadpool & Wolverine by now. The MCU movie, which pairs The Merc with a Mouth with the X-Man Wolverine in a wacky multiverse adventure, has grossed over $900 million as of August 8, and will easily pass the $1 billion mark after this weekend.

It's hard for a movie these days to make that much money, which is a testament to just how much people like this film. Aside from the much-publicized popcorn buckets that are already scarce collectibles and viral Tweets and video clips about its many surprise cameos, Deadpool & Wolverine's impressive popularity has already crossed over into the world of gaming.

Jennifer Garner stuns in Elektra training video for Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool and Elektra stand next to each other and stare.

By now, the secret's out that several characters from 20th Century Fox's superhero universe appear in Deadpool & Wolverine. One of those characters was Elektra, played by Jennifer Garner, in 2003's Daredevil and 2005's Elektra.

On Instagram, Garner posted a training montage of how she prepared for her return as Elektra. "I was fit, but not Marvel fit," Garner wrote in the caption. Having not picked up Elektra's sais in two decades, Garner got to work on this "impossible dream," preparing her body for a superhero transformation. With the help of her stunt double Shauna Duggins, Garner began incorporating weights, boxing, and peloton sessions into her workouts.

Deadpool & Wolverine isn’t the solution for the MCU’s problems
6 people stand together in Deadpool & Wolverine.

In its second weekend at the box office, Deadpool & Wolverine took in approximately $97 million... which is more than most films make in their first weekend. By the end of next weekend, it will likely pass $500 million domestic, which would make it one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest hits to date. The executives at Marvel Studios and Disney are surely celebrating the film's success, especially after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels bombed in 2023. But if they think that Deadpool & Wolverine is the solution for all of the MCU's problems then they are sorely mistaken.

One hit is not going to solve the issues that have plagued Marvel since 2019. There have been some huge movies that came out during that timespan, including Spider-Man: No Way Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, that performed like peak MCU flicks. But more often than not, there's been a downward trend in both the quality of Marvel's films and the response that they've received from the audience. Pretending that Deadpool & Wolverine fixed all of those issues isn't going to help anyone, least of all Marvel, if the studio can't learn from its mistakes.
