The upcoming Han Solo movie that will chronicle the early years of Star Wars’ famous rogue still doesn’t have an official title, but it does have a cast that’s growing quickly with the addition of some familiar faces — including the Mother of Dragons herself.

Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, who plays the dragon-friendly Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO series, has joined the cast of the still-untitled Han Solo movie in an unidentified role. She’ll appear alongside previously announced Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) and supporting cast member Donald Glover (Community, Atlanta), who portrays a young Lando Calrissian.

The casting announcement was made on StarWars.com, and offered few details about the role Clarke will take on in the film, which is expected to chronicle not only Han Solo’s early years, but also his first encounter with Chewbacca, the Wookiee who would become his best friend and copilot. The announcement simply indicated that Clarke’s character will “round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.”

Clarke is best known for her ongoing featured role in Game of Thrones, but the British actress has also appeared in several recent features, including the romantic drama Me Before You and the recent attempt at rebooting the Terminator franchise, Terminator Genisys. She’s been nominated for three solo Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance on Game of Thrones, and has also shared in four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations with the rest of show’s cast.

Directed by The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street filmmakers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord from a screenplay penned by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, the Han Solo movie will follow the famous smuggler and the events that led up to his encounter with a young Luke Skywalker and his Jedi mentor in a Mos Eisley cantina.

The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters May 25, 2018.

When it comes to fickle fanbases, the Star Wars and Game of Thrones fandoms are right up there among the most critical of the bunch -- and for good reason. Both franchises are among the most popular in the world within their respective genres, and are based on rich mythologies that span generations of characters, events, and the fictional timelines.

When it was announced back in 2018 that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff & D.B. Weiss were developing a new trilogy of films for the Star Wars universe, it initially seemed like a match made in genre heaven -- only to have the partnership dissolve with the unexpected announcement this week that the duo no longer had plans for a galaxy far, far away.

Before we start, a warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones follow.

One of the things that made HBO's Game of Thrones so exciting was its collection of grisly and unpredictable death scenes, during which any main character could seemingly die at any time (even if they didn't always stay that way). From Ned Stark to Jon Snow to the Mother of Dragons herself, no one was safe.
