Everything coming to Max (formerly HBO Max) in May 2024

Hacks Season 3 | Official Trailer | Max

April was a serious month for HBO and Max. The channel and streamer wrapped up season 2 of its excellent crime drama Tokyo Vice and premiered an unsettling political thriller, The Sympathizer, starring recent Oscar-winner Robert Downey Jr. In addition to those two shows, Max hosted the streaming debut of The Zone of Interest, one of the most unsettling and controversial Holocaust movies ever made.

So it’s not a surprise that Max is going to lighten up a little. Sure, there’s the odd devastating drama like The Iron Claw with Zac Efron, but there’s also the debut of Emmy-winning comedy Hacks‘ newest season. For those YA fans out there, John Green’s Turtles All the Way Down finally makes its way to small screens worldwide. There’s something for everyone this month on HBO and Max, so read below to find out something that suits your interests.

What’s new on HBO and Max in November 2024
Promo art for Dune: Prophecy.

The selection of new movies coming to HBO and Max in November is so thin that you could be forgiven if you accidentally mistook it for the lineup heading to Disney+. Twenty-three films are going to Max on November 1, which is well below the number that usually heads to streamers each month. That total includes the perquisite Christmas movies, many of which are also streaming on Hulu this holiday season.

So for films, November's a wash for Max. Thankfully, HBO's original programming, including Dune: Prophecy, Like Water for Chocolate, and a few new documentaries, makes Max worthwhile. Sports lovers also have the option to stream some NHL and NBA games, as well as cycling and "endurance car racing."

What’s new on Paramount+ in November 2024
Billy Bob Thornton in Landman.

Paramount+ may have launched Taylor Sheridan's Lioness season 2 at the end of October, but it also has a new Sheridan-created series coming in November as well. Like many of Sheridan's recent shows, Landman boasts an impressive cast that includes Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, Michael Peña, and more. But instead of focusing on the drama surrounding ranching like Yellowstone, Landman is shifting the focus to an oil company in Texas.

Showtime is also dropping a prominent new original series, The Agency, which features Michael Fassbender as a CIA operative named Martin who tries to figure out his identity after spending years on an undercover assignment. But only Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers can stream The Agency. And that's true of a lot of the latest movie additions as well. Showtime tends to get the A-list titles, and Paramount+'s lower tiers get everything else.

Everything leaving Hulu in November 2024
Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul and Karen Gillan in Dual.

There's very good news for Hulu fans if you're concerned about the movies and TV shows leaving the streamer in November. For the most part, Hulu isn't losing much content at all in the penultimate month of 2024. That means more bang for your subscriber buck, which is good because prices went up recently. Get used to that yearly trend.

Throughout November, there are a handful of indie movies to check out from Hulu, including Dual, Terminal, and I Kill Giants. I've never seen The Man Who Killed Hitler and then the Bigfoot, which is another one of the exiting titles. If a film is audacious enough to have that name, then the main character better freakin' kill Hitler and then Bigfoot, in that order.
