Fox is ready to give viewers a chance to watch its televisions shows live on devices other than their TV sets. The network is launching live-streaming on its digital platforms, Fox.com and the Fox Now app, on Monday, July 11, reports Deadline.

First up will be So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, and beyond that, all of Fox’s primetime programming will be available for live-streaming. The option will be available seven nights a week and even stretch to include Saturday’s late-night entertainment. There is one important caveat, though: You must be a pay-TV subscriber in order to access the network’s content. This isn’t quite the cord-cutting dream.

While the new strategy does still require a cable subscription, it offers more freedom for viewing. Fox fans will be able to watch the network’s content on their computer, iPhone, iPad, Android, or Kindle Fire, or by using an Apple TV or Google Chromecast. Overall, more than 98 percent of pay-TV subscribers will potentially be able to take advantage of the live-streaming option, according to Fox.

“From the start of the on-demand and over-the-top viewing revolution, Fox has been at the forefront of providing greater access to our buzz-defining shows, like Empire, Lucifer, Scream Queens and Family Guy,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, co-chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, in a statement.

“Adding nationwide primetime live-streams is just another great example of how the Fox Digital Consumer Group, under Brian Sullivan’s leadership, is innovating to give viewers the convenience and flexibility to watch our programming whenever and wherever they want.”

With Fox launching now, the network should have time to work out any kinks before the fall TV season begins. Check out Fox’s live TV starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT with SYTYCD.

This is great news for those in the countries, but not so great for residents traveling abroad who want to watch the action unfold live in their local language -- especially when it's free to watch at home.
