Everyone’s favorite bloodbath TV show is merging with everyone’s favorite interminable strategy game board game and fans will soon be able to jockey for control of the elusive Iron Throne from the safety of their living rooms.

Due to release in August, Risk: Game of Thrones Edition was created by USAopoly in partnership with HBO, and should provide a similar experience to what fans of the original have grown to know and love. Only, instead of real-world continents, players will trade territories on one of two maps that, together, comprise GoT’s known universe.

Expanding upon the original, the Game of Thrones Edition is one of startling complexity, including over 650 pieces,  28 character cards, seven uniquely-crafted armies, seven player boards, two game boards, and a partridge in a pear tree. OK, scratch that last one, but lest you thought this was a half-assed cash grab, think again.

Each of the seven armies has 45 intricate game pieces, with separate designs for one-and three-piece armies, in addition to special “seat of power” pieces.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the game itself offers three distinct ways to play: a two-player game that features House Targaryen and the Ghiscari; a three- to five-player version that features the houses Martell, Stark, Baratheon, Lannister, and Tyrell; and a version that combines both game boards, allowing up to seven players to contest the entire GoT landscape.

Looks like the only thing missing is a Bluetooth speaker looping the theme song and suits of armor to wear while you play. Just take care to avoid dragons, White Walkers, red weddings, and other pitfalls. As George R. R. Martin has proven in the past, no one in safe in the GoT world.

Risk: Game of Thrones Edition can accommodate two to seven players, is recommended for those aged 18 and older, and carries a suggested retail price of $74.95.

MultiVersus season 2 has just begun, and Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games have announced a couple of new additions to the game: Marvin the Martian and a new stage based on Game of Thrones.

Marvin the Martian is the third Looney Tunes character to be added to the MultiVersus fighters roster after Bugs Bunny and Taz -- or fourth if you include LeBron James from Space Jam: A New Legacy. The polite alien will come with his trademark Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator explosive device, powerful blaster, and spaceship-summoning abilities. His full move set will be revealed at a later time.

How House of the Dragon saved Game of Thrones’ tarnished legacy
Alicent and Rhaenyra clutch each other in House of the Dragon.

May 19, 2019, is a date branded on the pop culture lexicon. The finale to Game of Thrones, the television phenomenon that single-handedly revitalized the fantasy genre and redefined what "event television" meant, aired to the collective disappointment of millions of fans. The show's decline in quality had begun in season 7, with some questionable choices happening as far back as season 5, but the train wreck that was season 8 was beyond words. Consistency went out the window in favor of spectacle, resulting in a rushed season that reduced the world's greatest TV show into a sad shadow of its former self.

The controversial finale put a seemingly permanent stain on Game of Thrones. In the years leading up to its conclusion, HBO expressed interest in creating a franchise based around George R. R. Martin's World of Ice and Fire. However, the episode's terrible reception put the network's plan in doubt, with many wondering if the Game of Thrones brand was in a healthy enough place to support a franchise. Things got worse when the first spinoff, starring Naomi Watts, got unceremoniously axed -- even after shooting a $30 million pilot -- spelling doom for the would-be franchise. Alas, not all was lost; GoT still had an ace up its sleeve, and it was called House Targaryen.
