Back in July 2014, The Last Of Us writer and director Neil Druckmann joined filmmaker Sam Raimi on a San Diego Comic-Con panel discussing the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the hit game, and mentioned the studio’s interest in nabbing Game Of Thrones actress Maisie Williams to play the film’s lead, Ellie. In a recent interview, Williams confirmed that she’s met with the studio to discuss The Last Of Us.

Along with making it clear that she’s ready and willing to play the young survivor at the heart of the game’s post-apocalyptic adventure, Williams credited Twitter for her involvement with the project.

“I had a lunch a little while ago and we spoke about the possibility of me playing Ellie and that’s really exciting and I would absolutely love to,” Williams told Flicks and the City. “It kind of all came about on Twitter a long time ago. The power of Twitter still never ceases to amaze me.”

Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the hit HBO series based on novelist George R.R. Martin’s fantasy saga, admitted that she’s not much of a gamer — not due to lack of interest, but lack of skill. Even so, she said that she’s excited about the project, even at its current, early stage of production.

“I went to a lunch and we spoke a little bit about it, and then they announced at Comic-Con that we had spoken about it, and since then in like every interview people have been asking me about it,” she said. “Honestly I would love to and I think they would love me to play Ellie also, and that’s where it is at the moment. There’s no script, no director, it’s still very early days for the whole project, but if it all goes ahead soon enough I think, yeah, I would love to.”

The Last Of Us movie is currently being written by Druckmann, with Raimi serving as producer on the project. There’s no release date set for the project at this point.

Why The Last of Us is better as a TV show than a video game

HBO's series The Last of Us has proven to be one of the most popular and well-crafted TV shows in recent memory, which has helped dispel the stigma toward video game adaptations. But naturally, many people armed with their keyboards have deconstructed the series and made heavy comparisons to the acclaimed video game it is based on.

While some may prefer the game over the show, the TV series has arguably improved it in multiple aspects, including in terms of plot, characters, visuals, and overall mainstream appeal. The series has finished its first season, and with another on the way, there is already proof that The Last of Us is better off as a TV show.

Now that we've seen the entire first season, it's safe to say that The Last of Us is going to be remembered as one of the great shows in recent memory.
