It’s a giant space creature in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2’ concept art

We have just shy of nine months to go before Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy return in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, but director James Gunn has been keeping fans excited with a steady flow of commentary and hints about what he has planned for the sci-fi sequel, as well as some new concept art he revealed this week.

The art debuted in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, and features the cast of returning characters engaged in a high-flying battle with a massive, tentacled beast with a mouth filled with rows upon rows of sharp teeth. The team soars into the sky using jetpacks, with guns — and for Drax, knives — drawn and ready.

Gunn posted the art on Twitter without any context for the scene — prompting no shortage of speculation about whether we’d see something similar in the May 2017 sequel.

The art also prompted some questions from fans about the characters’ ability to breathe in space, to which Gunn responded in a series of subsequent posts.

Written and directed by Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 brings back Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (SPECTRE) as Drax, Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket Raccoon, Michael Rooker (Slither) as Yondu, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, and Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Kraglin.

Newcomers to the franchise who will make their debut in the sequel include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby) in an unspecified role, and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego, Peter Quill’s father.

Little is known about the plot of the sequel, only that the mystery of Peter Quill’s parentage will be one of the key narrative threads in the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.

Who dies at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
Nebula carries Star-Lord's limp body in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

It's the end of an era. Nearly a decade ago, Guardians of the Galaxy changed the MCU forever and introduced the world to a band of a-holes who, over the course of several movies, grew into a family. Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Mantis, and Nebula have become sentimental favorites to MCU fans and helped usher in the cosmic side of Marvel that is the dominant playground for Phase 5.

When things come to an end, however, that usually means someone bites the big one. And certainly, in the press and trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there's a strong indication that death will visit one or more of our beloved Guardians. Zoe Saldana has openly spoken about being done with playing Gamora, one of the MCU's best female characters, after this movie; ditto Dave Bautista with Drax. And one of the key promo images for the movie has Nebula carrying Star-Lord's limp body. Did I also mention one of the key plot points involves Rocket being mortally wounded?

When a certain type of movie ends, audiences know it's not time to leave the theaters just yet. It's now a ritual for audiences to linger after the end credits roll for superhero movies and even "regular" movies like John Wick: Chapter 4, as they know there will be one or two (or in some cases, more) "stingers" that tease about the endless sequels and cinematic universes that dominate the pop culture landscape. Marvel perfected the art of the end credits sequence in The Avengers, with the reveal of Thanos as the architect behind a grand scheme to collect all the Infinity Stones.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is certain to continue this tradition when it's released on May 4. The last film in James Gunn's trilogy, Vol. 3 has fans curious about what will happen to the beloved team in what appears to be their final adventure together. Does the film have any post-end credits scenes? And if so, what do they reveal about the future of the Guardians and the MCU? Find out by reading below!
How many post-credit scenes are there in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
There are two post-credit end scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The first one appears shortly after the main cast credits are shown. The second scene occurs after all of the credits have been displayed. Both are short and run approximately 90 seconds each.
