Siri looks into the flames, teases Jon Snow’s fate

Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends
The annual hype train for the latest season of Game of Thrones began when a bloodied image of Jon Snow was revealed last November.

The popular character was believed to be killed when he was repeatedly stabbed at the end of season five — but HBO’s won’t stop teasing, and it has turned the Internet to asking its digital assistants to find out the truth.

Scandal and Django Unchained actress Kerry Washington tweeted a screenshot of her iPhone, after she asked Siri if Snow was alive. Siri responded with, “I don’t know. I just hope someone is setting up doggie daycare for Ghost.” (Ghost, for the uninitiated, is Jon Snow’s direwolf.)

While Siri can’t appease our curious minds with actual answers, she does have a number of fun quotes from the show to respond with about the controversial matter.

Apple Offer: See which iPhone is the right fit for you

We asked Apple’s digital assistant again and she responded with “‘Dead is dead.’ Or is it ‘What’s dead may never die?’ No, wait, ‘Death is so terribly final?’ I give up.” Siri will also say, “Well, you know what they say to Death… Not today! But why would tomorrow be any better? Anyway, I’m not exactly sure.”

And finally, if you try it yourself, you might also get, “I’m not sure. Has he tried restarting? That always seems to work.”

We tested the same question with other digital assistants: Google Now, Cortana, and SoundHound’s new Hound app, but sadly they don’t know the answer either. Unfortunately, they also don’t offer interesting responses like Siri.

We’ll find out Snow’s verdict soon enough though, as Game of Thrones season six airs on Sunday, April 24.

How to change Siri’s voice on the Apple HomePod
Homepod Mini Lifestyle Shot.

We saw Siri’s voice options expand for many users thanks to iOS 14 updates, allowing users to pick from various voice assistant flavors to find an accent and tone they like best. However, it’s less clear how this option works on the HomePod or HomePod Mini, which don’t have the obvious Siri controls that something like iOS offers.

Fortunately, HomePod can also adjust Siri’s voice with the right settings. Let’s look at where to go and what to change so you can match your Siri across all your devices.
Step 1: Connect the Home app to your HomePod

HomePod owners can now ask Siri to play music from Deezer
homepod mini hand side

Music streaming service Deezer can now be added to the HomePod and HomePod mini. Doing so means that if you own one of Apple's smart speakers, you'll be able to ask Siri to play tracks, artists, albums, favorites, or playlists. It will work for Deezer subscribers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the U.K., and the U.S.

Deezer joins just a handful of third-party streaming music services that Apple allows on HomePod devices, including iHeartRadio and Pandora.

How to change Siri’s voice
The Siri activation animation on an iPhone running iOS 14.

We're all familiar with Siri by now. The famous intelligent voice assistant debuted in 2011 with the iPhone 4S, and since then Siri has appeared on pretty much every Apple device you care to name. To use Siri, you usually say "Hey Siri" near your Apple device, and the voice assistant will talk back to you.

The thing is, you may not necessarily like Siri's voice. Perhaps you'd like "her" to be a "him," or perhaps you want Siri to speak with a British accent. Either way, we explain in this article how to change Siri's voice, covering the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. We also explain how to change Siri's language, in case you want to speak to Apple's assistant in another tongue.
